Welcome back to Under the Covers, Bella! I’m so thrilled to be able to talk to you today about the next New York Sullivans book, SINCE I FELL FOR YOU. Suzanne Sullivan is quite the successful digital security specialist. What would you say is your most favorite thing about her character? What would you say is her greatest weakness?
Thank you so much for having me, Annie! I couldn’t be more excited about SINCE I FELL FOR YOU. It’s not only my 16th Sullivan, it’s also my 50th book, and I love writing about the Sullivan family more than ever!
Suzanne Sullivan is a really fun character partly because she’s such a brainiac. Yes, she has more than her fair share of Sullivan charm and good looks and devotion to family, but at the same time she’s different than her female cousins in San Francisco, Seattle and Maine, because she’s never been a “normal” girl at all. Computers and programming are her first love—and she’s hasn’t yet found a man who truly appreciates that about her. At least, not until Roman Huson comes along…
Her greatest weakness is that she forgets to ever take a break. She’s always running a million miles and hour for her company, her employees, her family, her friends—and she forgets to stop and just enjoy sitting outside soaking up the sun. Roman, of course, sees this right away, and vows to help her remember that there are other things in life that are more important than work. Like falling in love with a really hot bodyguard, for instance…
I’m just dying to know more about Roman Huson! What can you tell us about him?
I have wanted to write a bodyguard hero for years! But I knew I needed to pair him up with the perfect heroine who would push all his super-sexy buttons. Needless to say, Suzanne is the perfect match for Roman.
He is exactly the kind of protective hero that I love to write. He would never let anything happen to Suzanne—and he proves that to her in a multitude of ways throughout the book.
You write the most delicious heroes. What would you say is the one quality that all heroes should have?
Thank you, Annie! I love my heroes too. For me, the most important quality for a hero is that he always completely supports the heroine, but doesn’t ever try to take over her life in any way. He’s there to remind her that she’s brilliant and strong and brave—and that he’s always there as backup if she needs him when she takes the difficult steps to make her life better.
Also, all of my heroes are great in bed. 🙂
Has writing a series set in New York changed the style or feel of the stories for you or has it been relatively the same?
I do think the feel of the New York Sullivan is a little different from the Seattle Sullivans and the San Francisco Sullivans. Partly because a big chunk of each book is set not only in New York City, but also at Summer Lake in the Adirondacks. But partly because the family dynamic for the New York Sullivans is different from the other branches of the family due to the tragic way William Sullivan’s marriage ended and the fact that his wife passed away when the four kids were little. It’s been really wonderful to write about a family learning how to connect with each other again.
What can we expect for the next book in the series?
Drake Sullivan was the first New York Sullivan in Now That I’ve Found You, which came out earlier this year. Suzanne is the star of Since I Fell For You, the second New York Sullivan story. Alec and Harry will be the next Sullivans to find love in the third and fourth New York Sullivan stories. These are both going to be very emotional, sexy and romantic books, I can promise you that!
But before that, I’m pleased to be able to go deeper into the lives of a couple of characters from Summer Lake. If you have read Now That I’ve Found You (New York Sullivans #1), you have met Calvin, the Mayor of Summer Lake, and Christie, who runs the Inn at Summer Lake—and you are about to see much more of them in Since I Fell For You (New York Sullivans #2).
Calvin’s story will be released in Spring 2017, as he reconnects with a lost love in The Best Is Yet To Come. Christie’s story will come next in Summer 2017, when she falls in love with the last man she ever thought possible in Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You.
If I took a peek into your handbag, what would I most likely find?
Let’s see…my wallet, sunglasses, phone, headphones, pens, hairties, carmex, and far too many receipts!
If you could only keep one book from your bookshelf, which one would it be and why?
This is a tough one! I love all of my books. Probably “You Can Heal Your Life” by Louise Hays, because I have used it as a reference pretty regularly over the years. And, of course, Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie. I love that book
And lastly, let us know what you’re currently working on so we can keep an eye out for it!
I’m just about to send my brand new Lucy Kevin book (my “sweet” alter ego) to my copyeditor. It’s called The Summer Wedding (http://bellaandre.com/lucy/tsw/) and it will be released January 11, 2017. And then I will begin working on the next Maverick Billionaire book, Irresistible In Love (http://bellaandre.com/books/iil/), which will be released March 8, 2017.
I also have another Sullivan surprise that I’m hoping to work on this fall. I honestly can’t get enough of that family!
Thanks so much for chatting with me, Bella!
