In the second book of the Devil’s Isle series, Chloe Neill picks off right where the last book ended. Again, we are back by Claire Connolly’s side as she tries to hide a part of herself that will get her locked up in Devil’s Isle if she isn’t careful. Only Liam Quinn knows about her secret, but they are having trouble with restoring New Orleans from the magic that is consuming the city and now, there is a cult that has its sight on her.
Once again Neill has a great book on her hands, but because I was so blown away by the first book in the series, I had some pretty high expectations for this book. I had my own predictions about where this story might go but I have to admit that I was totally wrong. Neill takes this book into a totally different territory, one that I didn’t expect and for that reason, it did take me longer to get into the story. However, once I adjusted, it’s a smooth road from there.
This world is a very complicated one and the stakes get even more higher as more people are introduced into the story. This is one you definitely need to read in order as Neill wastes no time recapping previous events in the series. However despite everything that is happening, I still feel that this book is very much about Claire and Liam. I like where the author is going with this series despite having to readjust my own expectations. I don’t think there’s a series out there that is like this one so definitely check it out if you don’t mind being kept in the dark for a little bit. I get the feeling that there are plenty more twists and turns to come where Claire and Liam are concerned so buckle up and get read for a wicked ride.

When it comes to books I’m pretty adventurous. I read everything from Paranormal Romance to Urban Fantasy, New Adult, BDSM, LGBT fiction, Cozy Mysteries and even YA. If it’s got the littlest trace of romance in it, then I’ll probably read it. That being said, my all-time favorite authors are J.R. Ward and Karen Marie Moning.
When I’m not submerged in a good book, you can find me musing about makeup and planners or dreaming about Kpop boys and beaches. Until then, check out my reviews and let’s talk books!

I am such a fan of this series. I can’t get enough of it. This book killed me. I cannot wait for the next installment!
Great review. 🙂
Yay! Glad you liked it!
I love Chloe!!! Thanks for this, Annie!
Love her too!
Thanks for the review, I’ve only read a few books in a different series of Ms. Neill’s.
This might actually be my fave series she’s done! So you need to try it!
Ooh nice! I love Chloe’s books and this one is sitting in my review pile demanding my attention with probably 10 others. And that’s just the review pile! LOL! I remember enjoying the first book but perhaps having some of that new world confusion. It was a tad hard to transition from reading her Chicagoland Vampire series and jumping to a completely different world. Perhaps things will be easier once I finish that series next year…after a few weeks of crying most likely! LOL! Glad to see that this one was as awesome as the first! Cannot wait to read… Read more »
LOLOL! I know what you mean! Kinda sad that it’s nearly over but this one is just as great too!
Just ordered this! I am (im)patiently waiting for it to arrive!
Yay! Let me know what you think!
Can’t wait to read it…thanks for the review Annie
