Welcome back to Under the Covers, Lisa! Since your last visit here, you’ve started a brand new series. HARD RULES is the first book in the series. Can you please tell us what the Dirty Money series will be about?
Thank you so much for having me! DIRTY MONEY is very, very different from any of my previous series/books. It’s all about the battle between two brothers (Shane and Derek) over the Family Empire. And yet, there is absolutely romance in it as well when Emily gets thrown into the mix and becomes Shane’s (good brother) touchstone for the light side of things, as trying to bring his family’s company back from the brink of corruption leads him to question and tempt his own morals. It was incredibly fun and exciting to write! But with four books in this series there is so much more left to explore and I can’t wait to share that journey with my readers 🙂
What was the appeal for you to write this type of story?
I wanted to write something edgier and darker. I know I’ve gone a little dark in some of my other series, but this was a wholly different setting and I was able to really explore these characters that have been just begging to be written. So it was the chance to expand the depths of my writing and try my hand at something new that got me excited about these characters and their stories.
Can you tell us more about the Brandons? And what is your favorite thing about Shane in particular?
Oh they are a wicked bunch. All four of them have their flaws, some more than others. Shane is the only close to pure-hearted on of the family, but in the series readers will see him fight with the darker side. Going up again his whole family from different angles of attack. Maggie (the mother), Brandon Senior (the father), and Derek (the brother) all have their own agendas which will slowly be revealed and this family is going to go through hell, some of it of their own making, and some of it just life, or karma, if you believe in that. Shane was a very interesting hero to write. He toes the lines between good and bad so well. But when it comes down to it, he always tries to the right thing. My favorite thing about him is either his dirty talk or his sheer resolve to be the best version of himself and want the best for those he loves (even if they fight him tooth and nail).
What do you think readers will love about Emily?
I hope they’ll love her unwavering support of Shane. Yes, she has a ton of secrets of her own, which will be revealed throughout, but in her heart she has become Shane’s anchor in this messed-up world he’s found himself in. And they both recognize she’s trying with all her might to hold him steady down the path he’s chosen. But she was a character I wasn’t expecting to have such a dual side to, and she became a really interesting development writing-wise about half-way through book one.
How many books will be in the series?
For Shane and Emily’s story there will be four full-length novels. There will also be a fifth book about an important secondary character comprised of 3 serial novellas.
When writing your stories, do you ever include people or situations that you’ve encountered in real life into your books?
Absolutely! Almost always there will be little tidbits of real life worked in. Some of them funny, some of them personal quirks of my own, and some of them inspired from people watching.
How do you celebrate your release day?
Huddled in a corner rocking back and forth 🙂 Just kidding… kind of. I’m always super nervous for release day. You’d think it would get easier, but it doesn’t. Thankfully though I have the best readers ever and they are so sweet, sending me messages of excitement. So that helps a lot. At the end of the day I shut my computer and get some much needed rest that I’ve usually scrimped on leading into release day. Oh and eat a little too much chocolate 😉
Meeting our favorite authors in person is always a highlight for readers. Do you have a fun story about meeting a fan that has stayed with you?
The world we live in now is a peculiar and blessed one. I get to talk to my readers from all around the world on a daily basis, but it’s extra special when I get to finally MEET them! I’ve had a few meet and greets over the past couple of years and I love meeting each and every single reader, but it’s also a ton of fun when I meet someone who I converse with on social media on a weekly basis, whom I feel like is a friend already. I’ve had SO many of those encounters and it’s exciting each time!
What’s next for Lisa Renee Jones?
A ton. I swear I look at my publishing and writing schedules and have to take a deep breath. I’ve got a secret project or two that are going to be written this year. Readers may not see them for a bit, but it’s happening and I’m SO excited to write these new projects. Other than that, I am closing the final chapter on my Careless Whispers series in January with Surrender. That was a bitter-sweet ending, but I hope readers will enjoy it! From there I’ve got the next 3 Dirty Money novels, and I’m also hoping to fit in two more Tall, Dark and Deadly novels!

How bad do you want it?
The only man within the Brandon empire with a moral compass, Shane Brandon is ready to take his family's business dealings legitimate. His reckless and ruthless brother, Derek wants to keep Brandon Enterprises cemented in lies, deceit, and corruption. But the harder Shane fights to pull the company back into the light, the darker he has to become. Then he meets Emily Stevens, a woman who not only stirs a voracious sexual need in him, but becomes the only thing anchoring him between good and evil.
Emily is consumed by Shane, pushed sexually in ways she never dreamed of, falling deeper into the all-encompassing passion that is this man. She trusts him. He trusts her, but therein lies the danger. Emily has a secret, the very thing that brought her to him in the first place, and that secret that could that destroy them both.
