ALWAYS MY GIRL is the third book of The Shaughnessy Brothers but this is the first full-length book I’ve read of Samantha Chase. I jumped on reading this book mainly because I was looking for another series that centered around a family. I’m just a sucker for these kind of stories, so I had some high expectations going on.

For the most part, I liked the book. The writing is eloquent and simple to follow. Although I haven’t read the other books in the series, I found no problem in jumping in. Of course, I was most looking forward to meeting Quinn Shaughnessy. He seems to be a favorite and one readers were looking forward to getting a HEA. I liked Quinn but he didn’t totally win me over. He comes across as really young compared to his brothers, and being in the presence of Anna doesn’t help.

Anna and Quinn have known each other for a long time. There are a few small flashback scenes that build their initial relationship as children, which I think helps in strengthening the romance. However, I did feel like Quinn came off a little bit childish, especially as he runs off because he can’t come to terms with what he thinks of Anna. I mean, it’s sweet, but this isn’t a Young Adult book. I expect a grown man to be able to understand his own emotions by now.

Anna was sweet but not very memorable. I was kind of hoping that there would be more to his story because apart from the romance, nothing else really happens in the story. And because I wasn’t fully invested in the romance, the book just kind of cruised along.

I think if you’re in the mood for a sweet and charming Contemporary Romance that is family-oriented, then you might like this book. However, it didn’t exactly blow me away. Still, I am looking forward to reading more from Samantha Chase.

About Samantha Chase

New York Times and USA Today bestseller Samantha Chase released her debut novel, Jordan's Return, in November 2011. Although she waited until she was in her forties to publish for the first time, writing has been a lifelong passion. Teaching creative writing to students from elementary through high school and encouraging those students to follow their writing dreams motivated Samantha to take that step as well. Stay With Me (Montgomery Brothers book 3) hit the USA Today bestseller list upon its debut. Catering to the CEO was included in the romance bundle Loving the CEO, a five-book package that made the New York Times and the USA Today bestseller lists. In March 2013, The Christmas Cottage was nominated for two Indie Romance Convention Awards—Best Indie Romance Novella and Best Indie Contemporary Romance—while Samantha was nominated for Indie Author of the Year. When she’s not working on a new story, she spends her time reading contemporary romances, blogging, playing Scrabble on Facebook, and spending time with her husband of twenty-four years and their two sons in North Carolina.

I’m an obsessive makeup junkie and a compulsive reader. I like to call Under the Covers Book Blog my stomping ground, but when I’m not talking about books with my girls, I write New Adult Dystopian and Contemporary Romance under the pen name Ana Jolene (http://www.anajolene.com). I also work as a virtual assistant for authors. You also can find me as a reviewer and columnist for FreshFiction.com.

When it comes to books I’m pretty adventurous. I read everything from Paranormal Romance to Urban Fantasy, New Adult, BDSM, LGBT fiction, Cozy Mysteries and even YA. If it’s got the littlest trace of romance in it, then I’ll probably read it. That being said, my all-time favorite authors are J.R. Ward and Karen Marie Moning.

When I’m not submerged in a good book, you can find me musing about makeup and planners or dreaming about Kpop boys and beaches. Until then, check out my reviews and let’s talk books!

Yeah, this one was a little disappointing. But I think I will try another one of Chase’s before I make my final decision of whether I want to continue reading her.
