Hi Erin! So happy to have you back today at Under the Covers to chat about your newest series, Nashville Nights. Can you please tell us a bit about the new series?
Thanks for having me! Heart Breaker is the first of three books in the series, all set in Music City, and are sexy, sassy contemporary fun.
The first book, HEART BREAKER, features a singer/songwriter named Jolene. Now when I think of Nashville, music is the first thing that pops into mind so I was thrilled to see that the hero, Chance is essentially the second half of the singing duo! I’d love to know how you came up with the inspiration for this particular book because it’s a spicy premise.
To be honest, I don’t even know! I thought about a Nashville setting for a future series, sat down and dashed off the first two pages, then loved the voice. It was six months before I could come back to it and by then, I had fleshed out the idea of Jolene having siblings and Chance’s family history as iconic songwriters.
Was there any research that you had to do to write this novel?
Listening to lots of music! Researching Nashville, the music industry. I might have even had to drink some whiskey, just to be truly authentic. 😉
What’s your favorite thing about the hero and the heroine?
I love that Jolene is one hundred percent comfortable with who she is, as a woman and as a singer. She knows her strengths and weaknesses and doesn’t apologize for anything. Chance is the kind of hero who always makes the woman he is with the center of his universe and I think that’s hot.
If you had to summarize this story in a tweet, what would you say?
Follow Nashville’s hottest country music duo as they fight for their love in the city where the price for making your dreams is often a broken heart. #secondchanceromance
How would you say this book compares to what readers are used to getting from you?
I would say that this series is classic Erin McCarthy. Sexy, humorous, with a dash of raw, real emotion thrown in.
Of course, I have to ask, what’s your favourite country song and why?
Right now it’s probably “That Don’t Sound Like You” by Lee Brice (which inspired book three, which I’m currently writing!)
What’s the last book you read that kept you up all night reading under the covers?
Right now, I’m reading The Wrath and The Dawn for my book club.
What’s next for Erin McCarthy?
Currently, I’m working on book three for the Nashville Nights series, Love Taker. I also have a new release, BREAK, in my South Beach Bodyguards series coming out this summer.

Self-made singer/songwriter Jolene Hart loves everything about being on top in Nashville. Well, everything except her very public breakup with Chance Rivers, her sexy masculine other half. Once the hottest duo on the scene, they turned Music City on its ear. Now their careers are as cold as their relationship. Which is why their manager has practically locked them in a remote cabin with nothing but a guitar, a bed, and time to do what they do best: make some beautiful music together.
As Nashville royalty, Chance has big boots to fill—and the pressure that comes with ’em. He fell hard for Jolene, but he couldn’t handle the spotlight, the crowds, and the fights that made headlines and killed any notion that love and success could go hand-in-hand. Still, Chance is more than willing to rekindle the one thing that worked: the wild passion behind their hit songs. Soon they’re making up for lost time, in the steamiest ways possible. But Chance finds himself wishing for the impossible: that their intimate hideaway could last forever.
