Hi Lauren! Welcome back to Under the Covers. Anytime we see a new series by you we get excited! First off, can you tell us a little bit more about the Cherchez Wolf Pack?

Thanks so much for having me! Cherchez Wolf Pack is a series set up in the Cascade mountain range in a world where paranormals exist but haven’t fully come out yet to the humans all around them.

There’s a lot of politics both internally – the heroines in the first two books confront a world where females don’t have the same sort of power and position that males do and they don’t like it one bit.

They walk a careful edge to keep themselves hidden and safe, but also know the secrecy around their existence can only last so long.

The books are sexy, full of intense chemistry and connection between the heroes and heroines. Lots of alpha males, but I promise, those they end up with take no junk and totally stand up for themselves.

Now this series is actually a re-release and it was titled differently. In returning to this book, did you discover new things about the characters and/or world? Was there anything you wished you would’ve done differently the first time around that you were able to change now?

I wrote the books in 2007 and I’d like to think I’m a better writer at this point. So naturally as I went through them for revision edits, I was thankful to be able to smooth out some technical stuff like clunky transitions or passive writing.

The stories are both still the same, but it’s nice to be able to clean stuff up a bit! (though time consuming ;))

SWORN TO THE WOLF is the second book in the series. Can you tell us more about Laurent?

Laurent has grown up at Andreas’ side. Andreas is the pack leader and also a foster brother to him. The Phinney family took him in at a young age after his mother passed and his human father simply didn’t know how to raise him right.

He’s strong with a deep sense of honor and loyalty. His role, his whole life, has been to protect and he takes it very seriously.

When he meets Rain, he knows she’s the one for him, but he’s got to woo her. Because she’s human and has no idea about his world. And even once she does, she’s not just going to let him have his way every time either. He loves how strong his mate is. He loves how vital she is, and how much she brings to his family/pack. He’s also ridiculously sexy and dedicated to making sure she’s happy and satisfied 😉

Can you describe this book in 3 words?

Sexy alpha werewolves

What is your favourite thing about writing about the pack?

I love this group of characters. It’s so much fun to write about the history of werewolves in all sorts of different contexts. And this time I get to write about these wolves who originated in France. I love creating a pack history and culture as well. And all the sexy dudes just waiting for their mate to shower her or him with love and pleasure is also fun to write.

How do you get yourself in the right mood or mindset to write a paranormal story as opposed to a contemporary? Is there a difference?

I always have to build a world, even in a contemporary setting. I just have to work around a framework the reader already lives in with a contemporary book. With PNR, I get to create my own rules and a world that works best for my story and characters. It’s hard sometimes not to get caught up in that and lose sight of the story itself, but I love worldbuilding so much!

I use music to set the tone a lot – all my books and series have tracklists I listen to. That helps me keep my mind where it needs to be.

What are some of your favorite paranormal romances?

I love Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson books and her Alpha and Omega series. Nalini Singh’s Guild books are always fantastic and I adore them. Stacia Kane’s Downside series is one I wish everyone knew about – gutsy, broken, flawed characters you absolutely care about. Super creative world. LOVE them.

Some of my favorites as well!  What are you working on next?

I’ve got a contemporary romance series set in Seattle called WHISKEY SHARP coming out next year with HQN – I’m working on book one right now. It’s set in a barbershop/bar.

That sounds very excited and we can’t wait to read it! Thanks so much for sharing with us today!

Thank you for inviting me!

About Lauren Dane

Lauren Dane has been writing stories since she was able to use a pencil, and before that she used to tell them to people. Of course, she still talks nonstop, and through wonderful fate and good fortune, she’s now able to share what she writes with others. It’s a wonderful life!

The basics: Lauren is a mom, a partner, a best friend and a daughter. Living in the rainy but beautiful Pacific Northwest, she spends her late evenings writing like a fiend when she finally wrestles all of her kids to bed.
