Interview and Giveaway with Alessandra Torre

Welcome back to Under the Covers, Alessandra! Let’s start talking about HOLLYWOOD DIRT since this was one of our favorite books of 2015! Hollywood’s hottest bachelor? What can you tell readers about sexy Cole Masten?

Cole Masten is a mess. Hollywood’s biggest heartthrob – he just had his heart broken and has slunk off to a small Georgian town, ready to lick his wounds and focus on his next movie. What he isn’t expecting is a Georgian blonde named Summer.

Summer is just a small-town girl from Quincy. What do you think it is about her character that catches Cole’s attention as well as the readers?

It’s her attitude. Summer is so different from the polished and put-together LA girls that Cole is used to. She is feisty and isn’t impressed by Cole. She also stands up to him, which is a refreshing change. Though they clash from the beginning, I think he also respects her, from a very early place in the book.

This story definitely has the charm of a small-town romance. I’m curious about how the writing process was for this book. It’s a bit of a departure from the dark eroticism of your other books. What was your favourite part about writing this story?

Being in the mind of a small-town girl. I grew up in a town very similar to Quincy. It was so great to return to those roots, and those memories, and to paint the image of that small town and its people.

Do you think you will write more books along the lines of this one?

Probably. I loved the small town setting. And I liked the lighter lines of this book. I like writing twists and suspense, but it was also nice to write happy/sexy/funny for a change. My upcoming release LOVE CHLOE has a similar feel, but is big city instead of small town.

If you had to pick a favorite quote from the book, what would it be?

“Southern women are unique; there is no disputing that. We are women born of conflict, our pasts littered with battles and chaos, self-preservation, and protection. We’ve run plantations during wars, served Union soldiers tea before watching them burn our homes, hidden slaves from prosecution, and endured centuries of watching and learning from our men’s mistakes. It is not easy to survive life in the South. It is even more difficult to do it with a smile on your face. We have held these states together, held our dignity and graciousness, held our head high when it was smeared with blood and soot. We are strong. We are Southern. We have secrets and lives you will never imagine.”

Congratulations on the huge success of this book. Now lets hear about how you celebrated when you hit the lists with this one!

My celebrations are so unglamorous. By the time the lists came out, I was running on no sleep and fried nerves. It is a workout, releasing a book, planning release parties across four different social networks and endless promo. We ordered enough Chinese food to feed an army, vegged out on the couch and had a day-long movie marathon and nap session. It. Was. Glorious.

Your next book LOVE, CHLOE is out NOW! What can readers expect from this book?

LOVE, CHLOE is a really flirty, sexy and fun standalone romance. It’s about Chloe – a New York City single who recently went from rich girl to poor — and she’s trying to find herself (and love) in the big city. It was so much fun to write, and it is so much fun to read.

What did you enjoy the most about writing it?

I loved being in the head of a twenty-something single. I had forgotten all of the funny things that happen when you’re dating — the mistakes you make, the things you regret … LOVE CHLOE has kind of a Gossip Girls / Sex in the City vibe — and I loved creating that world, and her friendships, and all of the pieces of her life that came together in the end.

What’s a day in the life of Alessandra Torre like? Pictures welcome.

A lot of time sitting in a chair and working at the computer. We have three dogs, and they are the daily entertainment. We live on the beach, and try to take a long walk on it at least once a day. My husband is in real estate, so he is in and out of the house a lot during the day. In a normal day, I write for three hours, market for 3 more, and spend about two hours on email.

Chloe Madison. That's me. A former NYU princess who just fell from grace, right off my pampered Manhattan throne and onto the unforgiving steps of Nicole Brantley, socialite and queen bitch. Now, I walk her dog and mix her smoothies. Try to navigate my own problems while fixing all of hers.

I want what every New York girl wants. A career, an apartment, and true love, preferably in a smoking hot package.

It turns out I'll have to fight for all of it.
