“My Kindle was on fire!”
~ Under the Covers

Wow, what unexpected fun I had reading Bound, Spanked and Loved, a HUGE anthology of spanking and BDSM themed short stories that’s been released by fourteen authors in the genre in time for Valentine’s Day.  This is quite a hefty collection at almost 800 pages and I tried to read it almost straight through so as not to forget any of these unique stories. Some of the authors included in this anthology were well known to me, including Annabel Joseph, Sierra Cartwright, and Cari Silverwood (making this a must read for me), but others were completely unknown. Don’t let the unknown scare you away, however. I’m not being cliché when I say there’s something for everyone here.   It’s true that all the stories have a spanking/BDSM theme, so it should be a prerequisite that you enjoy a little kink in your reading, but the subgenres are really wide open and fascinating, from traditional Dom/sub play in an established BDSM community, to M/M/F ménage, to paranormal, to historical. I found the tie-ins to Valentine’s Day a bit forced in some, but each features not just erotic play, but a developing romance as well. You’ll get an HEA or happy for now ending for all of them.  That doesn’t mean they’re all sweet and cuddly, however. The spankings and rough play in most are beyond a little slap and tickle and many ride a line of consensual non-consent that I found the most enjoyable aspect of the reading. My Kindle was on fire!

I find it REALLY hard to pick out a few favorites, as there wasn’t a single dud in the bunch, but here are my highlights:

“Slab Hands” by Annabel Jospeh, where a bouncer and a girl who wants nothing more than to be spanked by him discover each other

“Theirs to Punish” by Renee Rose, where a stepdaughter hell-bent on revenge plans a jewel heist in a Vegas hotel and is caught by two kinky brothers. The price for their silence is her submission.

“Lust Angel” by Cari Silverwood, where an angel, fallen for lusting over a mortal man, discovers her need for submission and punishment.

“Stepbrother Jerk” by Natasha Knight, where a stepbrother ensures that his naughty stepsister never breaks the law again by teaching her a lesson of who she belongs to.

I could go on! There is an alien abduction, alien ménage, a sexy private investigator, a sweet but hot historical involving an ice farmer and his feisty charge, A Viking warrior, ballroom dancing, a secret society, a sexy ex-teacher turned Dom who has quite the flogger collection and a “hero” who rescues his betrothed from slavers.

As you can see, these are anything but your usual spanking fare, and I took it as an opportunity to enjoy what variety is really out there in the world of BDSM erotic romance. So often, we read what’s in the spotlight and don’t venture off to discover new things. Well worth the $0.99 this collection will cost and each story can be read in about 30 minutes, making it easy to pace yourself and savor everything it has to offer.spacer

About Cari Silverwood

Cari Silverwood is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling writer of kinky darkness or sometimes of dark kinkiness, depending on her moods and the amount of time she's spent staring into the night. She has an ornery nature as well as a lethal curiosity that makes her want to upend plots and see what falls out when you shake them. When others are writing bad men doing bad things, you may find her writing good men who accidentally on purpose fall into the abyss and come out with their morals twisted in knots.
This might be because she comes from the land down under, Australia, or it could be her excessive consumption of wine.

Her favorite hobby is convincing people she has a basement...though she really doesn’t. Promise.
If it existed it would be a terrifying place where you would find all the dangerous things that you never knew you craved.

About Sierra Cartwright

Sierra is a USA Today, International Best-Selling author who wrote her first book at age nine and hasn't stopped since.
Sierra invites you to share the complex journey of love and desire, of surrender and commitment.
Her own journey has taught her that trusting takes guts and courage, and her work is a celebration for everyone who is willing to take that risk.

I’m a 30-something medical professional by day and obsessive Crossfitter by night who’s been in love with the written word since I can remember. And that means that I read every Nancy Drew and Nancy Drew Files until I snuck Stephen King’s It from my father’s bookshelf at age 10.I was never the same… I read voraciously for years, until academic pursuits derailed me, but re-entered the fray 8 years ago when a certain teen paranormal series caught my attention. The passion back, I haven’t stopped since. When I’m not working, working out, or traipsing around for my teenage son’s hectic activity schedule, you can find me with Kindle in hand, often until the wee hours of the night.

I’m well known to be a genre hopper, who has very few hard limits. My first real romance series was J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood and she still rocks my paranormal world, along with Karen Moning’s Fever series and Joey Hill’s Vampire Queen series. That being said, you’ll often see me reading erotic romance with a BDSM focus.I’m never afraid of dark and dubious reads a la Joey Hill, Tiffany Reisz and Cari Silverwood. When genre fatigue sets in, a witty historical romance never fails to satisfy me, and Lisa Kleypasand Sarah MacLeanare my auto-buys.My favorite series of all time is Diana Gabaldon’s Outlader saga, and I will fight for Jamie Fraser to the death ;). Much to my fellow romance readers’ surprise, I also cleanse my palate with popular contemporary reads.Romantic suspense.LGBT.Western.If the writing is on, I’ll dig in.

I like a few of those authors, too. Thanks for bringing it to my attention and $.99 is tough to beat.
Nice review, Jennifer!

It sounds really good but I try to avoid anthologies with various authors…
