Top 10: Most Anticipated Films 2016

This list was hard! There are so many good films coming out next year, I’m looking forward to them almost as much as I am some book releases – only almost though, books are still top dog. Of course I (Suz) had to stop Ang from getting Zoolander on this list, it almost broke our friendship, I wasn’t sure if I could allow us to continue knowing that she likes that film. Anyways, ranting over, come and take a look at our top ten most anticipated film releases of 2016 – guaranteed to be Zoolander free!spacer

circle10The Huntsman: Winter’s Warhuntsman-winters-war-posters
Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Jessica Chastain

Release date: 22 April 2016 (USA)

I approach this film with both dread and excitement, dread because the first film starring Kristen Stewart aka she-of-the-one-facial-expression and Chris Hemsworth, was completely rubbish, I wanted the evil queen to win! But, I am excited because, hello! Chris Hemsworth. And of course Kristen Stewart is no longer in the film, score!

As two evil sisters prepare to conquer the land; two renegades – Eric the Huntsmen – who previously aided Snow White in defeating Ravenna, and his forbidden lover, Sara set out to stop them.

Starring: Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway
Release date: 27 May 2016 (USA)

The first film was weird and wonderful, I wasn’t sure whether to be afraid or in awe of the fantastically bizarre world. I settled on a little of both. I next year I look forward to Johnny Depp transforming in to the Mad Hatter once again and being taken on a weird and wonderful journey.

Alice returns to the whimsical world of Wonderland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter.

circle8Star Trek Beyond star trek beyond
Starring: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Idris Elba
Release date: 22 July 2016 (USA)

I don’t care what a geek this makes me, but I love Star Trek, the films, the series; everything apart from Deep Space Nine, love can only take you so far. This means a new Star Trek film is definitely got my inner Trekkie squealing in excitement. Beam me up!

circle7 ghostbusters3Ghostbusters
Starring: Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Chris Hemsworth
Release date: 15 July 2016 (USA)

Who you gonna call? GHOSBUSTERS! Who didn’t have that song going through their head when they read that? The old Dan Ackroyd and Bill Murray 80s Ghostbusters are such iconic films, I really hope the 2016 release can live up to all that expectation. I have high hopes though, it has a great cast and crew, but we will have to wait to find out!

circle6The BFGbfg
Starring: Mark Rylance, Rebecca Hall, Ruby Barnhill
Release date: 1 July 2016 (USA)

This much beloved book by Roald Dahl has now been adapted into a live action film, it’s exciting I can’t wait to see what they have done. Roald Dahl’s books have a way of being dark and yet accessible to kids and I hope that depth of story translates to the big screen.

A girl named Sophie encounters the Big Friendly Giant who, despite his intimidating appearance, turns out to be a kindhearted soul who is considered an outcast by the other giants because unlike his peers refuses to eat boys and girls.

spacercircle5batman-v-supermanBatman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice
Starring: Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck
Release date: 25 March 2016 (USA)

But they are both good guys! I don’t want them to fight, I want them fight together and beat up all the baddies. Okay, that was a little bit of a lie, Henry Cavill is HOT and Ben Affleck, looking surprisingly good in this film, so if they wanna take off their clothes pour on some oil and wrestle, I could get behind that… *fingers-crossed*

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’ most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

X-Men: Apocalypse xmenapc
Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Jame McAvoy
Release date: 27 May 2016 (USA)

Of all the superhero stuff that has come out, X-Men has always been my favourite. Maybe it was because I spent a good portion of my childhood watching the cartoon, maybe it is the exciting possibility that we could all somehow end up with superpowers without having to be bitten by a horrid spider or taking a dive in some radioactive swamp. Either way, I cannot WAIT to see Apocalypse on screen.

With the emergence of the world’s first mutant, Apocalypse, the X-Men must unite to defeat his extinction level plan.

spacercircle3fantastic beastsFantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them
Starring: Ezra Miller, Eddie Redmayne, Colin Farrell
Release date: 18 November 2016 (USA)

HARRY POTTER! Okay, it’s not quite Harry Potter, but it is based in the same world which is good enough. I cannot wait to see this film, it looks like it is going to be visually stunning, hopefully the actual plot and story will be able to match. The land of muggles and wizards has the potential to be so rich and interesting I hope the makes of the world have captured that and the film will do more than look good.

The adventures of writer Newt Scamander in New York’s secret community of witches and wizards seventy years before Harry Potter reads his book in school.

spacercircle2 Suicide Squad suicide squad
Starring: Margot Robbie, Cara Delvingne, Jared Leto
Release date: 5 August 2016 (USA)

The government are full of such good ideas; lets use some supervillians to clean up the streets…where could that possibly go wrong? There are sooo many ways, and I can’t WAIT to find out. I also can’t wait to see Jared Leto’s version of Joker, Heath Ledger did such an outstanding performance in Batman, I know I won’t be able to help doing a comparison.

A secret government agency recruits imprisoned supervillains to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for clemency.

circle1The Legend of Tarzan
Starring: Alex Skarsgaard, Margot Robbie
Release date: 1 July 2016 (USA)

I’m going to try really hard to not tell you that this is our most anticipated film because of a certain set of abs. However, those are 8 very good reasons over exactly why this is our most anticipated film of 2016. Of course we are also hoping that the film lives up to the action packed trailer and that we don’t come out at the end of the film, with the ONLY thing we liked being Alex’s abs.

Tarzan, having acclimated to life in London, is called back to his former home in the jungle to investigate the activities at a mining encampment.

I want to see Tarzan, with the now-beefy Alexander Skarsgard. I grew up watching the old Tarzan movies on Saturday afternoons , starring Johnny Weissmuller, Gordon Scott, etc. My Mom loved Miles O’Keeffe in the 1982 version of Tarzan, for the abs of course! She also liked 1984’s Christopher Lambert as Tarzan. Who will be the sexiest? Can’t wait to find out!
