“I vacillated from feeling irritated at everyone to being bored”
~ Under the Covers
Jotham, King of the House of Protection lost his life mate young and has mourned her ever since, unable to let go of the woman he loves but any able to bear hearing her name. But, with the unexpected entrance of Jacinda, a widow of one of his most respected Assemblyman, he must either learn to open his heart again or lose a second chance at happiness.
I really wanted to like this. It has sexy aliens in it! And this book contains a King of sexy aliens. Sadly, I vacillated from feeling irritated at everyone to being bored, which is exactly how I felt when I read the second book in the series Victoria’s Challenge.
Another problem I had, that was also similar to the issues I had with Victoria’s Challenge was the heroine. She was too perfect. Too together. Everyone loved her, she didn’t seem to have any foibles, make any mistakes, full of wise words and understanding. I can’t take anyone that disgustingly nice, it just feels unrealistic and I couldn’t relate to her at all. Of course, I’m not sure if that just says bad things about me, or about this book…
I don’t know if I want to give up on this series or not, as despite everything, I still feel slightly invested in the characters and want to know what happens with them, perfection and all. So, although I wouldn’t really recommend this series…it probably won’t stop me from continuing to read it.

Annnnnd I will stop myself there, before I start waxing lyrical about my love of historical romance and fantasy as well; no one needs to know about my elf fantasies. As you can tell, I adore and day dream about most romance genres, and my three big loves are 1) reading about romance 2) writing about romance and 3) talking about romance with my gals. Which, is why I love Under the Covers so much, I get all my bookish needs satisfied and don’t get judged when I talk about my favourite characters like they are real people. Which they are right?
