“Talk about the bad boy next door! Duke is both everything you’ve been warned to watch out for, and everything you could possibly crave.” ~ Under the Covers
I am extremely excited about this latest series by Lauren Dane. I loved the first book, which featured a sexy and a bit older hero who likes to work on cars. Yes, a little dirty and totally hot. This is the book about his business partner and friend, Duke. I cannot tell you how happy I was about that because I adored his character in the first book.
Duke was exactly what I thought he would be. Fun and laid back, but also extremely hot and intense. He’s had a crush on his next door neighbor for a while and when the old secretary at his job is quitting her job, he wastes no time to offer the position to the hottie next door. Yes, he needs the help at the office, but he can’t wait to be able to spend more time with her. After he accidentally saw her having sex in her living he’s been nothing but hot for her.
Talk about the bad boy next door! Duke is both everything you’ve been warned to watch out for, and everything you could possibly crave. Not only does he know his way around pleasing a woman, but he’s caring and protective. Wanting to make things easier on his woman because that should be his job. Wanting to simply spend time together. Just perfection. Add to that he can get dirty fixing cars, drive really fast and sometimes get in the occasional fist fight and you got it all.
Carmella is actually a pretty well balanced heroine. She’s not too mousy, but she can be shy at first. She’s not too headstrong as other heroines I’ve read about before. She likes her independence and doesn’t want to rely on a man, but can also admit when she may need help. She’s also very private, which in turn I understood perfectly. She’s all around very real.
So as much as I loved the characters, their chemistry was excellent and their sex lives were pretty explosive, I think the whole story was missing an umphfff. I can’t quite put my finger on what it is or what I was personally missing. But it fell just a little flat around the middle. Still very enjoyable read and a good addition to the series, though. And it totally leaves me craving the next one. Mick’s story is shaping up to be one of, if not my favorite in the series.

I get easily distracted by pictures of sexy guys and have tons of book boyfriends.I keep all my alpha males chained to my basement and guard them fiercely.*Back off bitches*I like to see Jason Momoa as a lot of those boyfriends, because ….. mmmmmmm JASON.MOMOA!
I’m a part time graphic designer (yes, everything you see on UTC has been done by me), run my husband's business from home and on a good day I’m a self appointed superwoman (she who can do it all).I love blogging with my girls and I couldn’t do it any other way!My first love is everything paranormal, but in the past few years I’ve re-learned to love contemporary romance.Every once in a while I like to mix things up with a historical romance, a steampunk or an LGBT book.Because I need variety to avoid book slumps.I don’t always need an HEA although I prefer one, and I love authors that can rip my heart out and make me ugly cry.
