“If you are looking for a series to devour this summer, then maybe you should consider this one! I know I plan to. ” ~ Under the Covers
I’ve been a fan of Carly Phillips for a while and for some reason I hadn’t picked up her new series Dare to Love yet. I have no idea why and I’m kicking myself now for waiting this long, but also there’s the added benefit that now I have quite a few books I can read without waiting between releases.
Our hero is Ian is just alpha enough for my liking and Riley definitely gives him a run for it. She’s struggling to come out on top on her own in life and in her career. Overcoming a lot of obstacles. Ian is extremely successful but has been dealing with the effects of finding out his father had another whole family outside of his marriage to his mother. Even after all this time he still can’t forgive him. So when the woman he wants, Riley, is his stepbrothers best friend, it only adds fuel to his fire.
One of my favorite things to read about in sweet contemporary romance are families. I immediately became connected with this one, both Ian’s immediate sisters and his stepbrother whom I need to know more about stat! There were enough glimpses into each of the members of this family to make you want to read this whole series right away and know what happens with each one.
The chemistry between Riley and Ian was missing a little bit of umpfh which is my only complaint about the story. And I don’t mean in the bedroom, just their every day connection. And Riley’s decisions in the end (which go back to her insecurities) felt thrown in a bit to add to the drama. Even so, I enjoyed this installment a lot.
I’ve also been a fan of Sophie Eastlake’s narrations in the past and I think she did an excellent job with this story! I will looking for the rest of this series on audio for sure.
DARE TO LOVE is my type of summer read. A story centered around a family that is just a bit dysfunctional. This was sweet and sexy and it drew me in as always Ms. Phillips knows how to do. If you are looking for a series to devour this summer, then maybe you should consider this one! I know I plan to.
