“In the author’s effort to make a hilarious book, I think she went too over the top with the crass humor and gave me a headache rather than making me laugh.” ~ Under the Covers
I feel like I should note that I was a big fan of Helena Hunting’s Clipped Wings series and while the LIBRARIAN PRINCIPLE didn’t ring all my bells I was still willing to give PUCKED a shot. If you know me then you’re probably aware that I’m not prude and joke about cocks and all those things regularly. However I found the humor in this book to be a little crass. Hunting diverts from everything else she has written and has penned this ridiculous, fun-loving and dirty story for her readers. Unfortunately for me, I can’t say I enjoyed it as much as her other books.
As someone who has a step brother in the NHL, Violet is well acquainted with the playboy athlete reputation so she keeps away from the players. But Alex Waters, legendary team captain and total hottie sweeps her away and after a night of smoking hot sex, Violet finds that she needs a time out to get her emotions under order.
Written from Violet’s POV, PUCKED is absolutely ridiculous from the very first page. Hunting doesn’t let up on the humor until the very end. But whereas others found the heroine to be funny and charming, her narration really got on my nerves. I felt like the humor was very forced and if Violet was a real life person, I think she would give me a headache. She seemed all over the place and with the other kooky characters in book, it was just too much craziness and not enough balance for my liking.
But that isn’t to say I didn’t like the hero, Alex. He’s dirty, sexy and since I’m a big sucker for abs, it was easy to like him. I just wished the author had toned down Violet’s craziness enough to allow readers to appreciate him.
In the author’s effort to make a hilarious book, I think she went too over the top with the crass humor and gave me a headache rather than making me laugh.

When it comes to books I’m pretty adventurous. I read everything from Paranormal Romance to Urban Fantasy, New Adult, BDSM, LGBT fiction, Cozy Mysteries and even YA. If it’s got the littlest trace of romance in it, then I’ll probably read it. That being said, my all-time favorite authors are J.R. Ward and Karen Marie Moning.
When I’m not submerged in a good book, you can find me musing about makeup and planners or dreaming about Kpop boys and beaches. Until then, check out my reviews and let’s talk books!
