“I just couldn’t deal. That’s all I can say.” ~ Under the Covers
I just don’t understand! Here goes another against popular belief review. I wanted to like OVERRULED. So much. I loved TANGLED and quite frankly I was ready to see another couple by author Emma Chase. Stanton just didn’t hit the mark for me.
I mean, I’m all for a jerk hero. I loved Drew from Tangled, I loved Andrew from Reasonable Doubt. I have no aversion to jerks. But Stanton goes beyond being a jerk into insensitive, self absorbed bastard territory. I like my jerks to have a one track mind in the pursuit of their heroine, I guess. Not to end up realizing they’ve been in love with someone at the end of the story. Sorry, I just couldn’t find one thing about Stanton to like nor why these women would be all over him. See? I’m going against tide of most people that have read this book. :/
I don’t want to spoil the book. Suffice it to say I started off wanting Stanton to get back with Jenny. His high school sweetheart and the girl he got pregnant when they were nothing but teenagers. As the book progresses, I see Stanton in another light, even Jenny in another light, and I can’t even muster the desire to see their problems coming to a happy ending. Of course, you add in Sofia to the mix and things get even worst.
Let’s call things by their name. Stanton is a cheater. I don’t care about his arrangements, agreements or lack of paper commitments. He’s living in another city, has a life away from the mother of his child, and his kid, and he’s banging every woman under the sun there. Nowadays, that woman is exclusively Sofia. Meanwhile, his arrangement is to go back home every so often, fuck around with Jenny too cuz that’s his family, and never speak of what happens in DC. What the…. what? The dude wants his cake AND eat it too.
How is Jenny ok with this? How is Sofia ok with this? Stanton I can’t even comment because he’s missing enough brain cells to understand what he’s even doing wrong. I mean, no common sense I tell you on his part. You know how we often refer to heroines as “too stupid to live”? Well, he’s a TSTL hero! I just couldn’t deal. That’s all I can say. I couldn’t deal with him, without wanting to stab him. I couldn’t deal with Sofia or Jenny most of the time for not standing up for themselves (earlier) because they both deserved better.
I do want to continue this series. The new characters introduced in this book have potential and I liked Stanton’s roommates. I just hope they have more common sense than him!

I get easily distracted by pictures of sexy guys and have tons of book boyfriends.I keep all my alpha males chained to my basement and guard them fiercely.*Back off bitches*I like to see Jason Momoa as a lot of those boyfriends, because ….. mmmmmmm JASON.MOMOA!
I’m a part time graphic designer (yes, everything you see on UTC has been done by me), run my husband's business from home and on a good day I’m a self appointed superwoman (she who can do it all).I love blogging with my girls and I couldn’t do it any other way!My first love is everything paranormal, but in the past few years I’ve re-learned to love contemporary romance.Every once in a while I like to mix things up with a historical romance, a steampunk or an LGBT book.Because I need variety to avoid book slumps.I don’t always need an HEA although I prefer one, and I love authors that can rip my heart out and make me ugly cry.
