We are kicking off our annual Cover Model Week, because we all want to get to know the men behind the covers more!  Kicking things off this week we have Drew Leighty!

Welcome to Under the Covers. We are so excited to have you here as part of COVER MODEL WEEK, so thank you! Now let’s get to know you a little better.

drew1Tell us 5 things about yourself that most people wouldn’t know.

1) Along with being Irish and Scottish, I’m also Mexican and Tahitian
2) Every time I eat a cupcake with a paper wrapper, I eat the wrapper instead of throwing it out (saves the world from excess garbage; I eat a lot of cupcakes)
3) I’m 26 year-old, but my brain works like a 16 year-old’s
4) Most people aren’t fortunate enough to be able to count all their best friends on a single hand, I have too many to count on both my hands and feet
5) I’m also a bartender, who’s drink of choice is Jameson (due to one of my best friends)

How did you get started modeling?

I was set off in a scam that made me $900 poorer. However, I was fortunate enough to meet photographer and now one of my best friends, Scott Hoover, who has helped me out tremendously through the world of modeling, and has not only found me jobs, but taken time out of his busy schedule to find me agencies as well.

What has been your favorite photo shoot or modeling experience you’ve had so far and why?

I worked on a set with the Mike Tyson’s Tiger in “The Hangover,” along with a baby tiger as well, and a bunch of pythons (not all at once). I have a deep passion for animals of any kind…. It didn’t hurt that I was one of two male models and 8 beautiful female models as well.

Do you have any funny/awkward moments on set that you can remember?

I’m usually quite a klutz, in everything I do. I’ve taken down backdrops, knocked over make-up, I even almost dropped one of the pythons, but one shoot I was on out in the desert was with a beautiful tall dark female model. We were just starting the shoot and I was wearing my boxers and she was wearing a tight black lace one piece. We had to act as a couple so we were all over one another, cuddling, embracing; doing what couples do. I heard the photographer click his first round of shots, and then I heard her say, “you’re poking me.” Found out not long after she was in a serious relationship.

From NYT and USA Today best selling author Ilsa Madden-Mills comes a new standalone novel

A beautiful violinist who lives next door…

The obsessed rock star who watches her…

And the one night she bares it all.
Vital Rejects front guy Sebastian Tate never imagined his YouTube music video would go viral, sky-rocketing him to acting success in Hollywood. Okay, maybe he did. After all, he’s a cocky dude who knows he’s hot-as-hell, and it was only a matter of time before his stars aligned.
But life in Tinseltown is never what it seems.
After being cheated on, Sebastian’s only rule to falling in love is simple: Keep Calm and Don’t Do It. Spying on his mysterious new neighbor with binoculars seems innocent enough, but quickly escalates into an erotic game between two very unlikely people.
Twenty-year-old Violet St. Lyons is a world-renowned violinist who’s lost her mojo on stage. She hides away in a Hollywood mansion, trying to find her way through her twisted past in order to make her future.
He’s the life of the party with girls chasing him down for his autograph. She’s the introvert with a potty mouth who doesn’t even know who he is.
When they meet, stars collide, sparks fly, and clothes come off. Yet, giving his heart to a girl isn’t Sebastian’s plan; falling for a guy who craves attention isn’t Violet’s.
Welcome to Briarcrest Academy–Hollywood style–where sometimes the best things in life are VERY TWISTED THINGS.

drew2How do you keep in such good shape?

I try to eat healthy, but that rarely happens, so I go to the gym hopefully about four times a week. I swim 2 miles, or I do a boxing class, or I lift weights. My philosophy is never let your muscles become accustomed to your workouts so I always try to mix things up a little.

Do you have any rituals before you go into a photo shoot?

I usually do about 50 push-ups, practice my poses a couples more times, and I fix my hair.

Do you read any part of the books you’re on the cover of? Anything in particular that made you blush?

Yeah I have read one book so far “The Return,” but plan to read the rest of them as well when I get a copy of the books. It doesn’t make me blush as much as it makes my head swell up, really, really big.

You don’t have to work on a weekend and just get to relax. What can we find you doing?

I work every weekend, but if I happened to have it off my ideal day would begin at the gym, then my girl, son, and I would go to the beach for a couple hours, maybe barbeque while we’re down there. After we would probably go to the market or come home to take our dogs on a walk. Before bed we would watch an animated movie of my son’s choice- since he’s the boss- and eat a bag full of popcorn. I would probably drink a Jameson or two to chase down the popcorn.

Tell us one of your guilty pleasures.

Panda Express, can’t live without it, but can’t model with it.

And just to make the ladies swoon a bit… You are taking your girl out on a date and really want to impress her. What’s your game plan?

All dates should begin with a beautiful bouquet of white roses, so first things first I’ll be expecting my flowers.
Kidding, I would stop by a flower shop pick up a bouquet, head home since she lives with me figure out a great way to hide them until we are headed out the door then spring them on her. Next, I would take her to a lounge to grab a round of drinks or two, preferably somewhere with a nice view of the sunset or live music. Followed by only the best date meal: SUSHI! Somewhere that’s a Japanese fusion, that has a nice ambiance, and is smaller for a more intimate setting. On our way home I would hope to stop by a Fro-Yo shop or ice cream shop to grab some sweets and maybe take that to go walk under the moonlight on the beach, or up to the mountains and sit on the hood of my car as we stare at the city lights.

Cover Model Week was started due to our excitement about the RT Book Convention. Have you had a chance to attend any book signings? And what the best experience you had during one so far?

I will honestly say that the best experience was signing at Apollycon from 10am-7pm because I was able to meet some really fantastic people who became more than fans but are now friends. All of them have welcomed me, with open arms into the book world. I couldn’t be more grateful to Jen, who took me on as her Seth, and strung me along to Apollycon where I was able to have this once in a lifetime experience.

The Fates are cackling their bony asses off…

It’s been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they’ve given him have been violent and bloody–which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He’s got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet.

Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy’s deal might be, but it’s a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to puree. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her.

But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all.

Because history has once again been flipped to repeat.

Nice interview! It’s refreshing to see someone being so honest. Love how you admit you think like a 16 yr old. I tell my husband he’s more like a 12 yr old at times!
