Welcome back to UTC, Rachel! We are extremely excited that you are going back to the Shifters world!
So, without giving too much away, what can you tell us about your new release LION’S SHARE?
LION’S SHARE (Wildcats book 1) is a spinoff of the Shifters series, with one difference. Whereas the original series was urban fantasy, these new books are romances, so while we’ll be reunited with many of the original characters, the focus of the Wildcats books is more of a 60/40 split between relationship and plot, which is the inverse of the Shifters novels. This first book is about Jace and Abby (Faythe’s younger cousin)!
This is a spin off series of your hugely popular Shifter series, what was it like getting back into that world after all this time?
It was like going home again! I just kind of knocked on the door and went back in!
What drew you to writing about shifters, cats in particular, rather than the traditional vampire or werewolf?
I’m a cat person. 😉
When you are sitting down to read, what do your prefer, e-Readers or books?
I still prefer print books, but I will read an ebook if I can only find what I want in electric format.
What was the last book that made you sit back and WOW?
You know, I’m still in love with Holly Black’s Curse Workers series. The world-building was amazing!
Can you share your routine for a typical writing day?
I get up at six and feed/have breakfast with the kids and take them to school, then I get back to work! Okay, sometimes I may take a nap when I get back home. Right now, everything’s a little chaotic. The kids are old enough to want to do everything, but not old enough to drive themselves, so 3-4 days a week, I wind up working at rehearsals or music lessons. That’s fine for rough drafting (the words don’t have to be good; they just have to be on the page) but I’m finding that I need longer uninterrupted periods for revising, because any time I’m pulled out of the world of the work, I backslide trying to get back in.
Is there a book, person, place or thing that inspired you as a writer?
No. Stories inspire me. I love to read and watch movies. Anything with a plot. And I’ve always been driven to tell stories as well.
What’s next for Rachel Vincent?
My next YA is THE STARS NEVER RISE, out from Delacorte on June 9, 2015. After that, MENAGERIE comes out from Mira Books on October 1. And with any luck, I’ll be writing another Wildcats book between deadlines!
Thanks so much for sharing with us today and congrats again on this latest release.
Thank you so much, and thank you for having me!
Abby Wade has a dangerous secret.
Two months ago, she disobeyed an order, but instead of kicking her out of the Pride, Jace offered her a job. Since then, she’s been battling a completely inappropriate crush on the young, hot Alpha. But when accepting his job offer seems like the only way to keep her skeletons safely in their closet, Abby doesn’t hesitate.
Jace Hammond has a big problem.
A rogue is slaughtering humans in his territory, and he must eliminate the threat before the entire shifter species is exposed. There could not be a worse time for Abby to accept a job he only offered as a boost to her confidence. Abby is smart, beautiful, and resilient—more than enough to distract any man from the mission. Unfortunately, she may just be the worst enforcer ever to hold the title.
As they hunt the killer, Abby’s secret becomes a threat to Jace’s authority and to her own life. But the real danger is the grip she has on his twice-shy heart.
We have an ebook copy of LION’S SHARE up for grabs. Open internationally.
