Author Override: Melanie Jayne

We are so excited about the release of THE PARTY PLAN!  We’ve had the opportunity to chat with Melanie Jayne here at different stages in her writing career and today she’s sharing with us her first book release, THE PARTY PLAN!  Happy Release Day!  As we sometimes do, we like to ask authors what books have kept them up all night reading under the covers and here’s what Melanie had to say.

I was fifteen in 1978 when I discovered a book hidden under some sweaters in my mom’s closet. I think I was looking for presents but instead I found Judith Krantz’s book, Scruples. I read it that afternoon and then I claimed to be sick so that I could lie in bed and read it that night.

The mostly black glossy cover with a woman in what appeared to be a turban with netting staring at me, her long red nails seemed to be glamorous and mysterious. I read and reread that book so many times, that the pages were curled and a piece of the cover was torn off.

The story centers on Billy who during a trip to Paris changes from an overweight caterpillar to a beautiful, chic butterfly. She goes on to marry a billionaire who loves her and paves the way into making her into an icon. After his death she opens a very exclusive boutique on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills named Scruples. There are secondary storylines about Spider and Valentine. Spider is the man-whore photographer who ends up working at Scruples as a fashion adviser to the clients. He had so much power that no one could leave the boutique until Spider approved their purchase. We also meet Valentine the young, French, fashion designer looking for her big break, she becomes the in-house designer for Scruples.

This book contained so many titillating themes, especially to a teen living in a small town that had yet to be really kissed.  There was the designer name dropping, a glimpse into how the rich live on the east and west coast and the behind the scenes look into the world of fashion. The sex scenes seemed really hot and there was even a hint of lesbianism.

This book contained a look into the lifestyle of the rich and famous, even today I have a TMZ addiction. I love fashion and the book’s description of the clothes amazed me. Then the sex scenes, well I think there must be a correlation between my love of a hot, sex filled story and my choice to write Erotic Romance. I would say that Scruples has had and will continue to have a huge impact on my life.

The Party Plan Cover

Avery Grant has been through a rough patch, she gave up her career to move home to help take care of her ailing parents. She married a man that she did not love and he almost bankrupted her family’s farm. She divorced the con man and saved her farm. Now she is going to get what she wants and for over twenty years she has wanted Kade Martin.

Kade has been attracted to his sister’s best friend for twenty years. In the beginning Avery was too innocent, then she was married and he was busy working hard and playing harder.

The plan is simple, after tonight’s party for their godson’s engagement, Avery is going home with Kade. One night of sex with no strings, that’s the plan.

About Melanie Jayne

I live on a grain farm in Central Indiana with my husband of 25 years and currently one Mastiff named Ginger. I started writing about 4 years ago, when my friend suggested that I try it. My first book is out 3-5-15. I get bored easily and change careers every 10 years or so. I've worked in retail management, in a courtroom for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, closed real estate loans and I am currently working behind the scenes on the overnight shift with the Security Department in a Casino. When I am not sleeping, working or writing, I love to read, watch sports and eat.
