There is something to be said about an author who isn’t afraid to take risks in her writing. For me, I see Beth Kery as fearless. In this eight part serial story, Kery weaves an intricate and intense romance that touches on several things that are sure to make readers hot.
Emma Shore is the newest addition to the Breakers, a majestic mansion owned by racecar billionaire Michael Montland. In the first part, Emma witnesses an interlude that both shocks and arouses her in equal measures and this kicks starts the story in a big way.
Though the story has been initially released in eight parts, I read it all at once. I’m not the most patient of readers and found that this is the best way to make serials work for me. Serials can be tricky to write, and read for that matter, but so far, I’ve come to realize that Beth Kery is among the best who do it.
The buildup staggers which really helps in keeping the reader engaged to the storyline. While I can understand the reasons why Kery does the things she does and the characters make the decisions they do, I can imagine that it may not suit everyone. However, as I read, I remembered that writing a serial is quite a different experience than writing a novel. Something needs to bring the readers back for each installment. I believe Kery achieved that well with this book.

When it comes to books I’m pretty adventurous. I read everything from Paranormal Romance to Urban Fantasy, New Adult, BDSM, LGBT fiction, Cozy Mysteries and even YA. If it’s got the littlest trace of romance in it, then I’ll probably read it. That being said, my all-time favorite authors are J.R. Ward and Karen Marie Moning.
When I’m not submerged in a good book, you can find me musing about makeup and planners or dreaming about Kpop boys and beaches. Until then, check out my reviews and let’s talk books!
