“BURNING DAWN is my favorite in the series. Gena Showalter has impressed me yet again.” ~ Under the Covers

In the third instalment to the Angels of the Dark series, Gena Showalter talks her readers back to that comfortable place of mystical creatures with larger than life attitudes.

From page one, I found myself falling in love with Elin Vale. Her upbeat narration is a wonderful contrast to Thane’s more stoic POV. It brings the humor and the character while also maintaining a sweetness that compliments Thane’s darkness nicely.

Thane has an obvious dark side to him. I wondered how Showalter was going to handle this, but I didn’t find him to be over the top or annoying which worked out in his benefit. I think it worked so well because as sweet as Elin is, she isn’t a fragile, weak thing.

I’ve noticed in Showalter’s recent books her stories have gotten longer. There’s more internal dialogue as well as choppier, shorter sentences. For the most part, it works but there are some instances where I felt it could have been cut back slightly, especially concerning Thane.

Nevertheless, BURNING DAWN is my favorite in the series. Gena Showalter has impressed me yet again.

Favorite Quote:

“Oh, little piggies,” Thane said, his voice soft yet dramatic. “Such sweet treats. How you send so many women…into heat.”

I’m an obsessive makeup junkie and a compulsive reader. I like to call Under the Covers Book Blog my stomping ground, but when I’m not talking about books with my girls, I write New Adult Dystopian and Contemporary Romance under the pen name Ana Jolene ( I also work as a virtual assistant for authors. When it comes to books I’m pretty adventurous. I read everything from Paranormal Romance to Urban Fantasy, New Adult, BDSM, LGBT fiction, Cozy Mysteries and even YA. If it’s got the littlest trace of romance in it, then I’ll probably read it. That being said, my all-time favorite authors are J.R. Ward and Karen Marie Moning.

When I’m not submerged in a good book, you can find me musing about makeup and planners or dreaming about Kpop boys and beaches. Until then, check out my reviews and let’s talk books!
