Hi everyone! I want to thank Under the Covers for having me today. I’m very excited to discuss my sexy Gifted Realm with you all! I once had a reviewer tell me that my books are a combination of Ozzie and Harriet and a fantastic, dirty movie you have to go behind the curtain in the video store to purchase. I really try to capture life in my books, the good, the bad, the family, the humor, the sexy, and the sinful.
When the concepts for my Realm first came to me, they completely took over my brain. I was raised in the hallowed halls of Harlequin (say that three times fast!) so Romance was always going to be my genre. I read it religiously. I just love, love.
I did want my series to be a little different. I definitely wanted a crime-fighting element along with some mystery and suspense. I also wanted to present several different couples and to showcase their personalities both in bed and out. I wanted my characters to be fully developed, even my beta characters. I also wanted to showcase family life, and how that always relates to whatever might be going on with my characters.
So, let’s dive right in shall we…
“Within the Realm,” really is the introduction to my world. My characters have the ability to harness and use the energy in the world around them and the energy in their own bodies. (The energies involved in making love are explored heavily.) I explain how my Realm is hidden in plain sight, and how their world affects ours. We also meet all of the major players in the Gifted Realm, the bad and the good and we discover how difficult it will be to take down a massive criminal organization when the antagonists are just as powerful as the protagonists.
The first three books are told largely from Rainer Lawson’s point of view. We see Rainer and Emily really come of age in this book and take a hesitant step out towards their adult lives. We also learn a great deal about how they got where they are today. Rainer’s life hasn’t been ideal, and we see him begin to come to terms with who his father was and what that means for him. The sexy scenes in “Within the Realm” are hot but get much hotter as the series progresses.
“Will you come upstairs with me and stay in my room, for just a little while, please?”
This had been happening with more frequency in the past few months. Turning her down on the swing, on the side porch of her parents’ home was nothing compared to the sheer amount of will power it took to turn her down while lying beside her in her bed. The feeling, the all-encompassing magic of holding her to him, of feeling her beside him, was irresistible. He leaned and kissed her forehead.
“Yeah, come on.” After helping her up, he stood and took her hand.
She spun and watched him as he began to pull off his shirt. He gazed at her hungrily as she slid out of her knit shorts. His breath caught in his throat.
She moved to him then helped him finish removing his shirt. He realized he’d halted abruptly with his t-shirt up around his arms when she’d shimmied out of her shorts.
She slid her hands down his chest, and he shuddered in palpable need. He threw his shirt on the floor, and she took his hand and led him to her bed. He caught a glimpse of the slight, white, cotton thong she was wearing as she leaned to toss pillows and stuffed animals off of her bed. After throwing the quilts and sheets back, she crawled in.
“Just hold me, please. That’s all I’m asking for.” She seemed to know how hard this was for him. He nodded and slid into the bed beside her, as he wrapped his arms around her and he settled her on his chest.
“I want to do so much more than hold you, Em. I want to feel you. I want to be with you.”
Her stomach clenched in sweet anticipation. He could feel her heartbeat pick up pace as her breath stuttered.
“Friday night,” she whispered.
The only problem with Emily’s room was that her parents’ bedroom stood between it and Levi’s old room. Emily frequently complained, disgustedly, about noises she heard coming from her parents’ room. They knew that meant that her parents could hear her, as well.
He moved silently and cradled her to his chest as he felt her bare legs tangle with his. He brushed a tender kiss across her lips, but that was all it took to catch the essence of her, and he wanted so much more.
She began to grind her hips against him, and he moaned. He clenched his jaw quickly to quell the noise. He devoured her mouth with his own to keep them both silent. He slid his hands over her and moved them up her shirt easily; it was much too large for her small frame.
Her breasts swelled in his hands as he pulsed against her crotch. He traced his right hand down her back, until he grasped her bare backside and massaged hungrily. She shuddered; her breath came in quick gasping pants. He pulled her waist closer and let her feel how hard he was as he grinded his body against the damp cotton between her legs. He moved his hands to her inner thighs, and a moan escaped her. He halted abruptly.
“Baby,” he panted, “I think I’d better go. If we keep going, I don’t think I’ll be able to stop…”
Lessons Learned is a hugely transitional novel for Rainer and Emily. We see them really grow up, and like us all, they don’t always make the best decisions in that process. Rainer tries desperately to balance his love life, work, his uncle’s greed, and the Interfeci, the criminal organization that is very anxious to get their hands on Rainer’s fortune and on the power that Emily’s family has.
Mistake after mistake plague Rainer and Emily in this novel. They really can’t seem to win, but we do get to see what my characters are really made of. The Haydenshire family moves to the forefront of power in The Gifted Realm. Governor Haydenshire agrees to run for Crown Governor, and the Interfeci will stop at nothing, including murder, to see that he doesn’t win the election.
Everything about Lessons Learned is fast-paced and intense but not without humor. We dive in from where we left off with “Within the Realm,” and it never slows down. The sex is sexier, the action scenes far more powerful, and by the end of Lessons Learned, Rainer, Emily, Logan, and Adeline all know that they can no longer be kids tucked away safely on Haydenshire farm. They have to fully own their adult lives and fight for what they believe in no matter what it may cost them.
Suddenly the hair on the back of Rainer’s neck stood. He began studying the area around them as they came into view of a man sprinting away from the Hummer. He’d forgotten to cast the car in all of the insanity over the papers.
His stomach clenched of its own accord as he reached and halted Emily’s progress. Her brow furrowed as she picked up on the panic in his energy streams.
“What’s wrong?” She hadn’t seen the man.
“Em, I, uh, I want you to cast a shield again, okay?”
“I don’t think it works like that, Rainer.” She clung to him nervously. “I think I have to feel like I’m in danger to draw on it like I did.”
“Okay,” Rainer nodded. “Then all of you throw a shield over her, please.”
Nathan, Tad, and Emily all summoned and shielded themselves with Tad and Nathan adding their casts over Emily.
Rainer summoned and held his hand outward. He began his radar scan at the front bumper and moved it back. He cursed and sprinted to the car. Reaching under the driver’s side wheel well, he located the small device.
“What is that?” Tad demanded as Emily clung to her uncle.
“It’s not a bomb?”
Rainer shook his head. His heart raced as he tried to think of what to do next.
“It’s a GPS tracker.” He informed everyone as they edged closer to him.
“Well did the press put it there or…?” Tad paused, “Or someone else?”
“I don’t know, but I intend to find out.”
Every Action, the third book of The Gifted Realm series, takes us abroad. As the election for American Crown Governor ensues, we get to meet a few major players in other Gifted Realms across the globe.
Rainer, Emily, Logan, and Adeline travel to Paris. Unfortunately, several key members of the Interfeci Criminal Organization follow them there.
Shocking, would be a great way to describe Every Action. The Haydenshires are embroiled in every kind of nasty political move that could come their way, and the candidates’ children become pawns in the vicious game.
Emily’s life hangs in the balance, and we see just how far Rainer will go to try and protect her and the repercussions that come from his decision.
We also learn more about what happened to Dan Vindico, the Chief of Elite Iodex, and the demons that haunt his soul each and every day.
Dan will ultimately take over as primary narrator in the last half of the series. We also see how far Logan has come and his dedication to Adeline brings us one of my very favorite love scenes in the entire book.
Logan was distraught. He paced relentlessly. Emily tried to soothe him with her cast but his internal shield had set firmly and nothing was going to get through to him, nothing but Adeline.
Rainer tried to get him to sit or to assure him that she was in the very best hands, but his reassurances sounded distant and tunneled. Logan could barely make them out. The roar of his own terror was simply too loud.
Another hour went by, and Rainer narrowed his eyes in a hate-fueled glare as he marched to the nurse’s station. The nurse who’d informed Logan that he couldn’t go back into surgery with Adeline, even though that was typically allowed during a Gifted surgery, had returned, but she’d refused to speak.
“Look!” Rainer menaced, “I know that you know who I am and whose son I am. I also know that everyone keeps telling him that you don’t know anything. So, listen up! The love of his entire existence is back there unconscious. No one will tell us anything, and you won’t let him back there because he hasn’t married her yet. So, here are your two options, you can go find me a minister, so that he can marry her now, or you can get up and go back and find something out before I get Crown Governor Vindico on the phone and see if we can’t get a little information.”
Logan couldn’t recall another time in his entire life that he’d been so happy that Rainer Lawson was his best friend.
People always ask me if I have any favorite characters. Picking a favorite is really tough. I feel like they’re all my children, but Dan and Fionna have a very special place in my heart.
In an effort to keep the man that kidnapped and murdered his fiancée in prison, Dan Vindico goes to extreme measures. This is the novel where we see Dan hit “Rock Bottom.” His vicious temper is his undoing, and it takes the luscious curves and beautiful heart of one Fionna Styler to finally get through to Dan.
A trip to Sydney, Australia ensues, and if you thought Rainer and Emily could set fire to the bed sheets, you haven’t seen anything yet! Dan brings all of that focused, determined, intensity to bed, and The Gifted Realm will never be the same.
We transition from Rainer telling us the story to Dan being our primary narrator. They take turns in the last two books to ultimately bring our story to a close.
We also finally meet Adeline’s father in Rock Bottom, and that brings on several difficulties that Logan wasn’t prepared for.
A slower song, with sultry island undertones, began, and Rainer wrapped Emily up in his arms. Fionna and Vindico had been tucked in the corner of the bar for almost two hours; they’d talked without end. They both seemed completely entranced by the other according to Emily who’d been spying on them and reporting back to Rainer and Garrett.
As the song began, Fionna stood and gave Vindico a look that could’ve set the entire bar ablaze as she led him to the dance floor and proceeded to lace her arms around his neck.
By the second verse, they’d melted together. She was cradled tightly in his muscle-bound arms with her head on his shoulder facing his neck. One of his hands was still on her back the other had slipped to her backside, and he didn’t seem willing to move it anytime soon.
Vindico was whispering softly in her ear, and Fionna looked like she’d died and gone to heaven.
“How hard do you think he’d hit me if I cut in?” Garrett teased as he danced Chloe next to Emily and Rainer.
“Are you proud of yourself?” Emily was still concerned that Vindico was going to sleep with Fionna and then walk away leaving her used and heartbroken.
“Come on, Em,” Garrett urged, “you’re a Receiver. When you think about them, what do you feel?” Rainer could feel Emily concentrate as he swayed her. Her energy spun as she considered.
A minute later, she smiled, “Maybe.”
“He’ll call her when you get back from Sydney. I’d bet my badge on it.” Garrett gestured his head back to Vindico and Fionna. Vindico had her face cradled tenderly in his hand and was priming her lips with his own.
The hand he’d positioned on her backside was now massaging and groping her as he guided her hips in rhythm around what Rainer assumed, from the low moan he heard Fionna gasp, must have been his pronounced erection. She clearly liked whatever she felt.
In a deft, well-rehearsed move, Vindico slipped his hand from her face, over her delicate neck, and down her rib cage. It was apparent to the entire bar that she trembled in his arms as his thumb caressed the side of her breast. He traced her lips with his tongue, and she opened her mouth as he devoured her.
“Well, okay, then.” Emily turned away from the display.
The song ended, and Vindico leaned and whispered in her ear what was almost certainly a request to take the show somewhere more private. She gave him a sultry nod.
An Angel All His Own
Dan takes over in this novel, although we do learn a few very key pieces of information about Rainer and Emily. We hear this portion of the story almost entirely from Dan’s point of view. In An Angel we get to really meet and get to know Dan’s family, The Vindicos. Much hilarity ensues from that, but in the end we see just what Dan and Fionna’s relationship could cost them.
In order to keep her safe and to keep her from being murdered just like Amelia, they must keep their relationship a secret.
Fionna is truly Dan’s own personal Angel, but he’s never quite certain if he’ll be able to keep her in his life and in his bed. In his opinion, someone else could give her so much more.
Garrett Haydenshire, Fionna’s best friend, and Dan’s right hand man in Iodex steps in to help smooth over the issues involving a covert relationship.
The passion between Dan and Fionna could set off multiple-alarm fires, but keeping everything a secret is much more difficult than either of them could ever have imagined.
When the Arlington Angels play in Vegas, Dan accompanies Fionna, but cannot be seen with her. When the Interfeci arrives, it’s a no-holds barred race to keep everyone alive and to make certain nobody finds out about Fionna.
“Sometimes, I’m really afraid I’m going to wake up and this will all have been some kind of fantastic dream,” she admitted in a heartfelt whisper.
“Sweetheart, I’ve been living a nightmare for a long, long time and you are truly the woman of my dreams. If this is a dream, I don’t ever want to wake up, but I’m not finished with you.”
Fionna’s eyes flashed both in surprise and concern. He stood and lifted her into his arms. He glided to her bathtub, ran the water, and climbed in behind her. He washed away everything he’d done.
“You’re tender, aren’t you?” he husked as he gently touched her again. She nodded and then melted in his arms as he moved his slick hands up her body to massage her neck and shoulders.
When he finished his work, he stepped out of the tub, heated a towel with his hands, and dried her thoroughly.
“Come here.” He took her hand and led her back to bed. Slowly, he lay on his side and cradled her back to his chest. “I want you again. I’ll never get enough.” Every touch was slow and gentle this time. He moved his hands over her body in soft, tranquil caresses. She was still swollen and wet from her many climaxes. She gave a quiet moan as he cupped her again. “So tender and full for me, so damn sweet. We’re gonna take it nice and slow this time, but I need you again. I’ll be gentle, baby.”
“Yes,” she whispered in the darkness as he traced her swollen inner lips. He opened her and entered her slowly, and then rhythmically claimed her again.
Thank you so much for letting me introduce you to my Realm. If you’re looking for a sexy read, I hope you’ll check out The Gifted Realm!
She’s everything Dan Vindico has ever wanted. Fionna Styler embodies every single thing he told himself could never exist inside of one woman. She’s beautiful, smart, funny, powerful, and she’s his… almost.
No one can know they’re together. The Interfeci would never let her live. It was an inevitability, but Dan simply cannot resist her.
After a vow to somehow keep her safe, Dan learns what that really entails. Betrayal, scandal, millions of dollars, and watching her in the arms of other men are only the beginning, when danger intrudes into every sanctuary he secures.
Dan can’t determine if the demons in his soul or the monsters outside are more vicious, but Fionna’s life depends solely on him. That blasted tomb is ever-present in his mind. Can he save the Angel who managed to pull him from the depths of hell, the one he longs to make his own?
