Hi Elisabeth and welcome to UTC to talk about TWISTED!
Thanks so much for having me here today and spreading the good news about the release of TWISTED!
Twisted marks book seven in the Eternal Guardians series. What can you tell us about this release?
TWISTED is an epic book. There’s no other way to describe it. Fans have been waiting for this story for a long time, and as such, I wanted to make sure it was worth the wait. Many story threads that were introduced back in book three (TEMPTED) are finally wrapped up, and new characters (and problems) are introduced.
Can you please introduce us to Nick? What’s his greatest strength? What is his greatest weakness?
Nick is the leader of the Misos (half breeds—half-Argolean, half-human). He’s Demetrius’s twin brother, and he has the markings of the Argonauts, but he isn’t one of them. Thanks to a curse by the gods, he and Demetrius also share the same soul mate—Isadora, the queen of Argolea—only Isadora chose Demetrius and the two are now married. This causes quite a bit of angst for Nick, as you can imagine. Nick has a dark history that is finally explained in TWISTED, and readers will discover how he really fits into the Eternal Guardians world.
In the end of BOUND, Nick sacrificed himself to save Isadora’s life. At the start of TWISTED he’s been imprisoned by Hades son for six months, and he’s fighting to stay alive. His greatest strength is probably his honor. Even though he doesn’t want to be a leader, he is one. And his greatest weakness…his soul mate. A soul mate he’ll never have.
How do you like to keep track of events/characters within a series?
Spreadsheets! I have lots of spreadsheets with descriptions and who’s related to who, and what happened in previous books. Without them I would be lost.
Every writer has a different writing process. How long does a first draft take you to write? How many more drafts are usually required to get the manuscript where you want it to be before anyone else sees it?
My books usually take me anywhere from 4-6 months to write, beginning to end. TWISTED was delayed quite a bit because I had other contracts to fulfill before I could focus solely on Nick’s story. I don’t generally do drafts, I write linearly from beginning to end and clean up as I go. If something isn’t working, I go back and rewrite what I’ve already written so I’m able to move forward. It’s a two steps back-one step forward kind of thing, but it works for me. By the time I’m finished with a book, it’s done. All I have to do is clean it up.
What was the last book you read? Would you recommend it?
RICOCHET by Skye Jordan. An oh yeah, I would TOTALLY recommend it. Sexy hot stunt men. Can’t go wrong there!
NICK – Leader of the half-breeds and the last true hero. He’s spent his life fighting a dark pull toward the gods. A pull he now knows is linked to his father Krónos and the Titan’s plan to escape from the Underworld.
But Nick’s hidden powers are coveted by more than just his father. Imprisoned by Hades, Nick battles every form of torture imaginable as the sadistic god schemes to break him. Only one thing is keeping him sane. One woman who gives him the strength to fight the relentless darkness. She has a dangerous plan of her own, though, and as Nick’s powers grow stronger, even she might not be enough to alter his destiny.
As the fate of the world hangs in the balance, Nick’s allegiances are tested. And no one knows whether he will choose to fight for good or succumb to the sinister lure of evil. Not even him.
