“I really struggled with [trying to] acclimate to the style that Sheridan infuses her books in.” ~ Under the Covers

BECOMING CALDER is part of Mia Sheridan’s A Sign of Love series. But it is also the first part in a two-part story for Calder and Eden inspired by Aquarius. The second part to the story is called Finding Eden.

I was interested in this story because of the concept of it. A lot of people seem to be fans of the series. I found Calder and Eden to be strong characters that have quite a cute and inspiring romance. Although this claims to be New Adult Contemporary, I didn’t think the secluded community that Calder is from really made it seem that way. They take to heart certain morals over others and when you throw in the Prophet and Acadia and all that, it really didn’t come across as something that could be relatable in the modern community especially in the beginning. Unfortunately, I didn’t like it.

Calder and Eden form a strong bond early on in their life. It steadily progresses later on. There’s a sweetness to it all that make the romance very inspiring. But as I mentioned earlier, this is only the first part in a duology so the conclusion for them as yet to come.

However for me, I think the problem lie in the execution and the writing style. A lot of people have been raving about the amazing writing. I personally found it to be quite choppy, preventing me from really and truly submerging into the storyline. As the story progressed, I found it easier but the beginning I really struggled with it as I tried to acclimate to the style that Sheridan infuses her books in.

I’m an obsessive makeup junkie and a compulsive reader. I like to call Under the Covers Book Blog my stomping ground, but when I’m not talking about books with my girls, I write New Adult Dystopian and Contemporary Romance under the pen name Ana Jolene ( I also work as a virtual assistant for authors. You also can find me as a reviewer and columnist for

When it comes to books I’m pretty adventurous. I read everything from Paranormal Romance to Urban Fantasy, New Adult, BDSM, LGBT fiction, Cozy Mysteries and even YA. If it’s got the littlest trace of romance in it, then I’ll probably read it. That being said, my all-time favorite authors are J.R. Ward and Karen Marie Moning.

When I’m not submerged in a good book, you can find me musing about makeup and planners or dreaming about Kpop boys and beaches. Until then, check out my reviews and let’s talk books!

Hmmmm….choppy writing does not make for good storytelling. Stories should flow.
