Hi everyone, we are so excited to be chatting with the always lovely Gena Showalter today in preparation the to the release of THE QUEEN OF ZOMBIE HEARTS. Here at Under the Covers we love this series! And can’t wait to get our hands on this book! So, please help us welcome Gena once again to Under the Covers!
Hi Gena and welcome! What can you tell us about the latest installment ‘The Queen of Zombie Hearts’?
As the war between zombie and humans—and humans and humans—heats up, Ali Bell has to decide what’s more important. Her love life…or her life.
Did you have the White Rabbit Chronicles all planned out? Did you know how it is going to end? Was it always in your head when you came up with the series?
Much to my dismay, no. I wrote the first book with only a vague idea of where I was headed. Girl realizes zombies are real, falls for boy who kills zombies, learns to kill zombies herself, romance, the end. I had a better idea with book two—mirror images come to life, zombie wars, secrets among friends, problems with romance—and then absolutely ZERO idea with book three—uh, more zombies? I knew I had to tie up all the threads I’d left dangling in the first two books and brainstormed with my editor about how, exactly, to do that.
The end result thrilled me. Do I enjoy torturing my characters? Yes. This book is proof. Did I smile more while writing this book than ever before? Definitely. And not just because of the torture. Did I cry? Yes, that too. I had fun, and I think it shows.
If you were in a zombie apocalypse, which three essential items would you grab in your efforts to survive the undead horde?
Cole Holland, Frosty and Bronx. I’d grab hold so hard. Good luck prying them from my kung fu grip.
And your favorite way to kill a zombie is?
In the White Rabbit Chronicles world, there is only one way to kill a Z: the slayer light. But to incapacitate a zombie? I’d go with the removal of body parts. In other words: fun!
What has been the most fun thing about writing this series?
Hands down, the characters. I adore Ali’s strength, Cole’s smoldering sexiness, Kat’s snark, Frosty’s ego, Bronx’s quiet determination, Reeve’s willingness to help, Mackenzie’s loyalty. I would love to spend real time with these kids.
So we are very excited about some of your upcoming releases! (When do you ever sleep??) Anything you can tell us about Torin while we desperately wait for him to finally come in November?
Torin’s book has been called my hottest yet. In a lot of ways, I think it’s my most creative. I had to rewrite it several times to get it right, but all the extra pages and time was worth it to me. And I absolutely adored writing Keeley, the heroine. In the beginning she’s just a little, well, insane. But she’s still the girl I want to be when I grow up!
You also have a contemporary series coming next year! How would you summarize The Original Heartbreakers?
Three not-quite-reformed bad boys finally meet the women who will bring them to their knees. These books will be sexy, fun but emotional, at times even gut wrenching. I am already head over heels for the heroes who met in foster care.
Thanks again for stopping by and sharing with us today and can’t wait for everyone to read THE QUEEN OF ZOMBIE HEARTS!
I have a plan.
We’ll either destroy them for good, or they’ll destroy us.
Either way, only one of us is walking away.
In the stunning conclusion to the wildly popular White Rabbit Chronicles, Alice “Ali” Bell thinks the worst is behind her. She’s ready to take the next step with boyfriend Cole Holland, the leader of the zombie slayers…until Anima Industries, the agency controlling the zombies, launches a sneak attack, killing four of her friends. It’s then she realizes that humans can be more dangerous than monsters…and the worst has only begun.
As the surviving slayers prepare for war, Ali discovers she, too, can control the zombies…and she isn’t the girl she thought she was. She’s connected to the woman responsible for killing—and turning—Cole’s mother. How can their relationship endure? As secrets come to light, and more slayers are taken or killed, Ali will fight harder than ever to bring down Anima—even sacrificing her own life for those she loves.
