Burning Up July is almost coming to an end and we had to include this author…again! 🙂 THE GIRL IN 6E is an erotic thriller that might just be the different type of book you are looking for!
Welcome back to Under the Covers, Alessandra! THE GIRL IN 6E is not your typical erotic story. I found it to be an alluring thriller. How did the idea for this come to be?
I was surfing the internet one night, doing research on different fetishes, when a pop-up ad showed up for a webcam site. Intrigued, I clicked on the ad and was taken to a free chat room. Watching the girl, and seeing what the men were typing… I was instantly fascinated. I wanted to know everything about who she was, and what she chatted with these men about. I dove into the industry and interviewed a bunch of girls. Those interviews eventually led to my creation of Deanna, the main character (a homicidal recluse who has cybersex for money).
With such a complex storyline I’m sure some serious research went into this. Can you tell us a bit about that?
I touched on this above, but the research into this book was intense. I needed to find out everything about a camgirl’s setup, from the technology side to the money. Then I dove into the clients, what they wanted from the girls, what fantasies and secrets they explored online.
If you had to describe this book in a tweet, what would you say?
A girl, locked in her apartment for 3 years, fights a strong desire to kill. When her sexy job interferes with that seclusion, everything changes in an instant.
Do you have a favorite quote in the book?
Are you planning a sequel?
Yes! It has already been written, is going through the editorial process now.
For fans of your other work under Alessandra Torre, how would you say THE GIRL IN 6E compares and differentiates?
I decided to pub Girl in 6E under a different pen name because of how different this book is. I didn’t want to turn off my readers who are strictly romance readers. The Girl in 6E has some dark moments. When you are dealing with a insane main character, you can’t avoid that. But it also has a lot of witty moments, where you see the fascinating side of her work, or the possible romance with her delivery man, or the funny sweet girl that she is underneath all of the madness.
When writing a dark and complex book like this, what puts you in the right mood?
I had some dark moments writing this book. Most books/scenes, I can put on my headphones and write in any situation (car, living room, beach). This book, I had to get in a different place. I did a lot of writing late at night, when the house was quiet and I could focus on death. 🙂
If we were unforgivably rude and dug in your purse right now, what would we find?
You’d be looking. I don’t normally carry a purse, unless situations dictate it. I do always have my big bag, which holds my laptop, charger, a pair of socks, my canceling headphones, and a sweater. Sometimes, if I’m feeling wild, I’ll toss in a bag of Sour Patch Watermelon. 🙂
A dark and sexy thriller from a sensational new voice.
Deanna Madden, aka Jessica Reilly, hasn’t touched another person in three years.
She hasn’t left her apartment.
She makes money from performing to webcams on a sex site, where her clients pay $6.99 a minute for her time.
She’s doing alright. The dollars are piling up in the bank. She’s the number 3 model on cams.com.
And she hasn’t killed anyone for years.
But when Deanna sees on the news that a little girl called Annie has gone missing, the story rattles her carefully ordered world. It’s uncomfortably similar to the dark fantasy of one of her most disturbing online clients. She’s convinced he’s responsible for the girl’s abduction – but no one will listen to her.
So, after three years, Deanna finally leaves the apartment.
And this is what happens…
It was like entering another dimension – Barbie world collided with Boogie Nights. The walls on this side were a pale shade of white, almost pink in tone, and covered with posters, framed photos, and a wall calendar, filled with notes, arrows, and hearts. The bed, a white four-poster queen, was covered in a pink bedspread, pink pillows, and ruffles. The bed matched a small bedside table, which held a hot pink lamp and notebook. It was like a teenage girl had been given free reign at Bed Bath & Beyond and had gone insane with her mother’s credit card. The bedroom was illuminated in bright, blinding light coming from four giant stands, each holding professional-grade spotlights. Cords ran around the room, thin ethernet ones, large power strip ropes, and silver-mesh strands that seemed to power and orchestrate the whole ensemble. There were computers, monitors, and cameras everywhere, all focused on the area, all portable and easily maneuvered. In the center of the bed was her, and everything else disappeared in that moment.
She knelt upright on the bed, her dark hair disheveled, her eyes locked with his. She was naked, her breasts heaving, pink nipples stiff, her pale skin flushed and glowing. Her brown eyes sharpened on his, and flashed with something he instantly recognized as anger. Oh shit. He tried to move his mouth, tried to speak, tried not to stare at her skin, her breasts, the shaved mound between her thighs. Nothing came out, his mouth uncooperative, and then she stood.
