~ KATHLEEN COLLINS ~
Hi Kathleen, welcome to Under the Covers. For those who do not know you, please tell us a little about yourself.
The first two books in my Realm Walker series are out from Carina Press. I work at the local prosecutor’s office during the day. When I’m not doing that, I take care of my two boys, three if you count my husband. I’m currently writing my next book.
You are releasing the Death’s Daughter, the second installment of the Realm Walker Series. Can you tell us what to expect from this book?
This book is a little darker than the first one, if for no other reason than it deals with a killer that’s taking children and leaving their bodies on display for the police. The killing is kept off the page but it’s still dark. But this is a dark world so it reasons the stories in it should be dark. Juliana is tracking the killer, called the Thief with the help of a local police detective. While she’s busy doing that, Thomas is hunting prey of a different sort in South America.
How many books are you planning and will it be all about Thomas and Juliana?
There are five books and a novella planned in the series. And yes they are all about Thomas and Juliana. I might do an origin story for Michael as well. I get asked about him a lot.
Both books of this series are less than two hundred pages. Are they all going to be same lengths?
That I actually don’t know. I don’t plan the length, I just start writing and see where we get to. The first book was actually 86,000 words and got cut in edits. The second one was shorter than it is now and got added to in edits so the length is a total crap shoot for me.
There seems to be a lot of avenues this series can go. Any plans for spin offs?
Other than the origin story for Michael, not at this time but I rule nothing out.
Is there anything about Thomas or Juliana that can be found in you or your family such as personality, traits or names?
Well, I’m a bit of a smart ass. I think that comes out in Juliana. As far as names I have a very dogeared copy of a baby name book that I refer to a lot. I can say that there have been experiences that have made their way into the book in one form or another, whether that’s a character trait or an entire character I think I’ll keep that a secret.
Tell us how your writing day looks like.
Well, I work full time and have two younger children, one of whom is special needs. When I’m not working, they take up a lot of my time. So I usually don’t sit down at my computer until 9 or so and I write until midnight. When I’m under a deadline, I’ll extend that but I try not to be on a computer all the time when my kids are around.
What’s next for Kathleen Collins?
I’m working on book 3 of the Realm Walker series and also a contemporary romance. My agent is currently submitting a fantasy romance I wrote as well.
An estranged mate, a mangled body and a powerful demon who calls her by name…
As a Realm Walker for the Agency, Juliana Norris tracks deadly paranormal quarry using her unique ability to see magical signatures. She excels at her job, but her friends worry about her mysterious habit of dying in the line of duty without staying dead. That’s only the first of her secrets.
Most people don’t know Juliana became the mate of master vampire Thomas Kendrick before he abandoned her seven years ago. Most people don’t know the horrors she endured at the hands of the vampire he left in command. Most people don’t know her true parentage, or why a demon on a world-threatening rampage has taken a personal interest in her…
Even as Juliana pursues the demon, it goes after all she holds dear—including Thomas, who is back to claim her for his own. But if she can’t reconcile her past and learn to trust herself again, she will lose him forever.

Juliana Norris, Realm Walker with the Agency, is an Altered. A fact that she runs up against every time she’s forced to work with human police officers, and their species-ist commissioner, on cases they can’t solve themselves. Which happens more than they would like to admit.
Her gift—the quality that makes her the best Realm Walker in the business, without boast—is the ability to read magical signatures. Whether the gift came from her father, the dark fae god of death, or the mage mother she can’t remember, is anyone’s guess. And when Altered children start going missing with only wild magical signatures as clues, her heritage is the last thing on her mind.
She can’t afford such distractions, and she definitely can’t afford to worry about the fact that her mate, master vampire Thomas Kendrick, hasn’t spoken to her since she saved him from a demon—maybe it’s because she had to stab him to do so. Because whoever is kidnapping these children must be very powerful to wield wild magic. Very powerful, and very dangerous indeed.

Curse him if his smile didn’t make her warm in all the right places. He was so cocky, so sure of himself. The bastard. She hated that she couldn’t hold onto her irritation when he was around. All he had to do was flash that smile or turn a sweet phrase and she melted. Damned if she’d let him know it though.
“Hungry?” he asked as he dropped his feet to the floor.
She frowned at the sudden change in topic but took a mental inventory of when she’d last consumed a meal. “Yeah, I could eat.”
His phone played a morose melody and he stood to pull it out of his pocket. “I’ve got to take this.” He
moved over to the bar, leaving her to frown at his back. The problem with Thomas was he had too many secrets. Considering the rather large amount of her own she’d been known to carry around, she supposed she should be more forgiving. Besides, for all she knew, he was ordering supplies for the bar. On the other side of the room. In a whisper.
Ms Collins has a copy of Realm Walker or Death’s Daughter up for grabs. Winner’s choice.
