Top 5 Sexiest Dance Scenes … Ever
I just finished watching Grease and even though I have seen it ten million times, my heart never fails to flutter when Danny Zuko first sees Sandy after her makeover and falls to his knees—completely electrified. It got me thinking about some of Hollywood’s most swoon worthy dance scenes. And since my latest release, BE MINE FOREVER, follows Trey DeLuca, a total comitta-phobe who falls for the sweet and sexy dance-teacher-next-door, I thought what better way to celebrate its release today than to share my personal favs when it comes to men shaking their tail feathers.
After some long and hard consideration, I have finally narrowed it down to my top #5 Sexiest Dance Scenes in film ever…
#5 Grease: Amazing music and dance scenes, this movie was the romance that defined an entire generation. Good girl falls for bad boy and how can their love survive when they live in two separate worlds. What’s not to love? It is a modern day Romeo and Juliette played out by two of the biggest stars of their time. Every girl in America wanted to be Sandy—and look that great in vinyl.
#4 Magic Mike. A movie with Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello, Matthew McConaughey, and Matt Bomeralf naked and shaking their delectable money makers? Need I say more?
#3 Dirty Dancing. Yes, I understand that I share this move with millions of women around the world, but it will always feel as though Dirty Dancing belongs to me. I was in middle school when this movie came out and after weeks of begging my mother to let me go see it she finally gave in. Jenny V and I walked into that dollar theatre and spent two hours with the movie that would forever seal my fate as a hopeless romantic. I fell in love that day. Fell for the beauty of dance, the intricacy of relationships, and the power of film as a career. But when Johnny Castle walked across that ballroom and said, “Nobody puts Baby in a corner,” everything inside of me shifted. Not only was it was the romantic decoration heard around the world, it was the declaration that would forever change my world. In that single cinematic moment, I fell in love with the idea of romance, the idea that the sweet girl-next-door could fall for trouble from the other side of the tracks and the clash of two different worlds didn’t matter because in the end love conquers all. I didn’t know I would be a writer that day, but I knew that I wanted to live in a world like that…
#2 Love Actually: I love my men big, bad assed, and sexy. But nothing gets my heart pumping more than humor and swagger. And Hugh Grant as the Prime Minister brings both. I gotta tell you, when he shakes his cute bum to the Pointer Sisters, it does it for me, ladies. Maybe it’s the accent or the floppy hair, perhaps the adorable smile, the choice in music, or the way he just lets go and rocks it…whatever it is, the man has it and this scene steals my heart!
#1 Strictly Ballroom: Sexy, sensual and so dang funny, this movie has the perfect blend of humor and heart and an unexpected heat that makes it my #1 swoon-worthy must-see Hollywood dance moment. This movie plays out like a Julie Garwood or Tessa Dare historical romance novel with love, betrayal, family obligations, class conflict, and brilliant dialogue—only it is set in the Australian Ballroom circuit in the 1990’s and follows the dashing dance royal, Scott Hasting. Scott puts his reputation as a world class dancer on the line when, as simple dance lessons turn into so much more, he chooses to partner the shy and awkward wallflower, Fran, at the Pan-Pacific Dance Competition. It is a decision that everyone is convinced will cost him his career.
It would be enough that he defies his family and society when he falls for Fran, but the writers don’t stop there. Nope, in the ending scene Scott Hastings slides across the floor at the Pan-Pacific Competition stopping at Fran’s feet to hold out his hand as he silently asks her to partner him….forever. If you haven’t seen this movie, go watch it on Netflix now!
Honorable Mention: I couldn’t end this list without at least saying the name Luke Bryan. Yes, I know he isn’t an actor and this isn’t a clip from a movie but—be still my heart, Big Guy—when this man shakes it on stage women everywhere feel the shift of the earth’s axis and simultaneously sigh in sheer awe. Hands down, Luke Bryan has the best honky tonk Sugar Shaker in the world! And he is funny, ladies.
Sometimes forever is as easy as coming home …
For Trey DeLuca, the idea of settling down was entirely unsettling. As VP of sales for his family’s wine company, he’s never in any one city—or with any one woman—for long, which is how he likes it. But when family obligations keep him temporarily grounded in his hometown, he finds the perfect distraction. She’s sweet, gorgeous, and sexy as hell … only her life screams commitment.
Between raising her son and struggling to keep her dance school afloat, Sara Reed has her hands full. Dance students she needs—a steamy tangled sheets cha-cha with a self-admitted commitment-phobe? Not going to happen. But sparks fly as the town prepares for a big Valentine’s Day gala, and Trey strikes a deal with Sara … he’ll “manny-up” and watch her son in exchange for ballroom lessons.
With love quickstepping ever closer, Sara needs to teach this playboy some new steps or risk losing him—and her heart—forever.
