~ LEAH BRAEMEL ~
Thanks to Under the Covers for inviting me today to talk about my latest book, Slow Ride Home. It’s a new cowboy story, about Ben Grady, one of two brothers who have recently inherited Bull’s Hollow, the family’s massive ranch in Texas. Ben’s been raised to be a cowboy from the moment he was born, and he and his brother Jake consider it their family’s legacy. So he’s shocked to discover that someone else is claiming to own part of the ranch, and has sold their share. Which forces him to rely upon his title insurance company’s investigator to help clear the title and reclaim the land. Turns out the investigator is none other than his old girlfriend—a woman his grandfather drove from the ranch years before.
After doing a ton of posts about how I wrote the book, I figured it was time I ask Ben himself a few questions. Allie was hanging around and she butted in on a few questions too.
Leah: So Ben, what is one word to describe yourself?
Ben: Laid back
(Allie snorts in the background and mouths “perfectionist”)
Leah: What was your gut reaction the first time you saw Allie?
Ben: (a slow smile warms his expression) Thunderstruck. She was in the barn, rubbing down a horse, talking to it with this really sexy voice, tight jeans with rhinestone hearts on the pockets. They clung to her…*clears his throat* Yeah, she really caught my attention.
Leah: So who kissed who first?
Ben: Oh, I kissed her first of course.
Allie: Because I let him.
Leah: What is your most treasured possession?
Ben: The ranch, no question about it. *he grins* You were expecting me to say Allie, right? Well, I can’t own her. She’s a gift, not a possession.
Allie (winking at Ben): Okay, you just earned yourself a surprise tonight, cowboy.
Leah: Has Allie ever used your razor to shave her legs?
Ben (burying his face in his hands) Yes. But I’m not allowed to say anything about it.
Allie: It was once. Just once. And he’ll never let me forget it!
Ben holds up both hands, his fingers extended and flashes them multiple times.
Leah: Does Allie sing in the shower?
Ben: Yup, and dances too.
Leah: Allie? Does Ben sing in the shower?
Allie (rolling her eyes): Yup. He thinks he’s a regular Luke Bryan in there.
Ben: Hey, you like Luke Bryan.
Allie: Yeah, I like Luke, but you’re him. You’re…well, you’re you. *she cuddles up with him*
Leah: Boxers/Briefs/Boxer Briefs?
Allie answers as Ben colors up: Boxer Briefs.
Leah: Other than Allie, what’s your favorite indulgence?
Ben: Our cook Butch makes the most delicious chocolate chip banana oatmeal cookies.
Allie: I got the recipe from him so I can share it with you if you want.
Leah: What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve done together?
Ben (glancing sideways at Allie): It’s a tie between skinny dipping at the hollow and a certain act in an elevator at an Aerosmith show (Ben stops talking after Allie punches him arm and tells him to shut up)

Losing his father was hard enough, but now Ben Grady must face the fact that he and his brother may not be sole owners of their beloved ranch. To protect his family’s legacy, he’s forced to rely on the legal prowess of the woman who stars in his erotic fantasies: Allie O’Keefe. Ben’s never forgotten the illicit encounter they shared fifteen years ago—or forgiven himself for letting her go.
Allie thought she’d moved beyond the scandal that cost her Ben in the past. But working so closely with the seductive rancher arouses the wild child within the cautious woman she’s become. Though she tries to keep business and pleasure separate, Allie soon gives in to temptation, and discovers Ben’s sensual skills surpass even her X-rated memories…
Allie has every intention of leaving Bull’s Hollow forever after her investigation is complete. But there are a few complications. Not the least of which is that while saving the ranch, Allie’s lost her heart.
