~ MAYA RODALE ~
That moment when no one believes you landed the duke.
Every once in a while it happens: Prince Charming notices the shy, unpopular wallflower. Every once in a while they fall in love, get married and live happily ever after (spoiler alert—that happens in The Wicked Wallflower). However, reactions often range from suspicion to disbelief. When a betrothal announcement for Emma (one of London’s Least Likely) and the Duke of Ashbrooke (The Most Eligible Bachelor of All Time Ever) appears in the newspaper, EVERYONE* comes to visit…and to find out if it’s really true.
*Everyone may or may not include the Duke, whom Emma has never met. Keep following The Wallflower Moments Blog Tour to find out how/when that happens!
The Wicked Wallflower and skeptical mean girls
“How fortunate that you have landed a duke! And Ashbrooke, nonetheless! However did you manage it, Emma?” Lady Mulberry inquired, a slight tinge of malice in her voice. Truly, it was remarkable Emma had landed anyone. But London’s Least Likely and London’s Most Eligible? It just did not add up.
Well, now Emma knew where That Cursed Letter had gone: directly to the offices of The London Weekly.
Emma glanced at her mother, who appeared to be woolgathering as she sipped her tea. Probably planning the wedding already.
“I was shocked to read it,” Lady Katherine said and there was malice in her tone because she had set her cap for Ashbrooke and everyone knew it.
Emma could not relinquish this moment of triumph over her longtime rival, nor could she admit that it was a hoax.
“I can assure you, I was equally surprised,” Emma said. Then she smiled, like she knew the most delicious secret in the world—which she did, though she would die a thousand torturous deaths before admitting the truth of the matter to her nemesis, and in her own drawing room. No one could ever know that she wasn’t betrothed to Ashbrooke—or that she had never even met him!
Lady Emma Avery has accidentally announced her engagement—to the most eligible man in England. As soon as it’s discovered that Emma has never actually met the infamously attractive Duke of Ashbrooke, she’ll no longer be a wallflower; she’ll be a laughingstock. And then Ashbrooke does something Emma never expected. He plays along with her charade.
A temporary betrothal to the irreproachable Lady Avery could be just the thing to repair Ashbrooke’s tattered reputation. Seducing her is simply a bonus. And then Emma does what he never expected: she refuses his advances. It’s unprecedented. Inconceivable. Quite damnably alluring.
London’s Least Likely to Misbehave has aroused the curiosity—among other things—of London’s most notorious rogue. Now nothing will suffice but to uncover Emma’s wanton side and prove there’s nothing so satisfying as two perfect strangers…being perfectly scandalous together.
