A Whole Lot of Naughty…
OK, so I like writing about sex.
Some novels reflect an erotic depth to my love scenes which is always character driven. With my upcoming novel, The Marriage Merger, one of the main plotlines revolves around sex, so I was able to delve a bit deeper into the love scenes than some of my other work.
Breaking open Julietta’s sexual boundaries was key to connect her with my hero, Sawyer. Some BDSM elements worked well, and the use of handcuffs, ties, and spanking brought this book to a higher level. In fact, it pretty much has one of the longest sex scenes I’ve ever written.
But..that wouldn’t have worked in some of my other books. For instance, if poor Nick from The Marriage Bargain whipped out some handcuffs or blindfolds, I think Alexa would have been shocked.
And not in a good way. They were different, their past history lent them to a more intense sexual scene where humor and tension exploded beyond proportion. Maggie and Michael from The Marriage Trap were a bit more edgy, but there was no need to take the sex scenes to such a level.
Well, there was one scene but I used it to reveal a key from her past. And with Max and Carina from The Marriage Mistake, well…let’s just say a little chocolate syrup goes a long way.
But the right sex at the right time is critical to a good book. It has to work, or readers will get the feeling authors are just throwing in hot scenes because the story needs a bit of spice. Let the characters dictate and you can’t go wrong.
Whether the story is a little bit naughty or a little bit nice, if we let our characters lead we can’t go wrong.
Here’s a teaser from The Marriage Merger
showing a bit of those hot scenes! Enjoy!
She kept her body stiff and waited for him to finally pull away. When he began pressing tiny kisses to her brow and down her cheeks, she bit back a sob. “Please let me go.” “No. Not yet.” He tortured her with slow caresses over her hips, sliding under her jacket and stroking the thin silk of her blouse. His touch was heated and strong, kneading her muscles while his mouth drifted near her ear and played with her lobe, licking, biting gently, until a slow burn simmered under her skin. “You’ve been screwed, baby, and not in a good way. Assholes have made you feel there’s something wrong with you. Tied you up in so many knots that your body is stuck.” She took a deep breath, quickly twisted and brought her knee up.
Unfortunately, he anticipated the move and kept her tightly pinned. His rock-hard erection pressed against her core, and a low animal moan escaped her lips. Where had that come from? His soft laugh stirred the strands by her temple, and unbelievably, she grew wetter. “I could show you things you’ve been missing,” he taunted. His tongue licked the inner shell of her ear and a stream of hot breath caused goose bumps to pepper her flesh. His hands continued to massage her hips and slide behind to cup her buttocks, forcing her to arch on tiptoes. “Things that can free your delicious body and let you surrender to pleasure.” She panted. “Like sexual discrimination and harassment? Oh, goody.” “Let’s put that mouth to better use, shall we?”
Welcome Sawyer and Julietta and thank you for coming to Under The Covers. For those who do not know you tell us a little about yourselves.
Sawyer: “Thanks for having us, Angela. You met both of us in The Marriage Merger, and I must say we’re the best couple in the entire Marriage to a Billionaire series.”
Julietta: “Darling, that’s not nice.”
Sawyer grins. “But true. Let the readers decide. Anyway, my lovely wife gave me a hard time but I finally caught her – in bed and out.”
Julietta sighs. “Read the book, please, and you’ll see.”
What was the first thought that ran through your head when Momma Conte suggested you get married?
Sawyer: “I thought I was on some kind of reality joke show. Then I realized she was serious and was calling in her marker from years ago. Let’s just say I wasn’t ready.”
Julietta snorts. “You weren’t ready? I felt like a prized horse on the market for the highest bidder. Of course, now I know Mama likes to arrange marriages in her free time for her children, so I don’t feel as bad. It was a hard thing for both of us to accept at the time, but it worked out.”
Julietta do you think you it was The Book of Spells that is responsible for you haapy-ever-after or Momma Conte?! Any thoughts?
“I’m caught between the power of my mother and the power of the book. I think each had a big role in getting us our happy ever after.”
I assume the business is doing well and obviously you guys are doing awesome, what is next for you guys?
Sawyer: “The opening of my hotel, Purity, in Milan was a huge success. La Dolce Famiglia is booming and sales are up. We’ll be moving on to opening our next location.”
Julietta:” And don’t forget about Wolfe. We’ll be sending him to New York to study at NYU.” Julietta takes Sawyer’s hand and smiles. “We’ll miss him like crazy but it’s time he gets to experience college and have some fun for a change.”
Tell us what you think of your writer, Jennifer Probst. Any juicy info you can share? Does she write in her undies or jammies? Do you think Ms. Probst will write about Wolfe?
Sawyer stretches out his legs. “I owe her just as much as Mama Conte. She could’ve easily held me back in The Marriage Mistake but she let me speak and listened when I told her I want my own damn book. I certainly didn’t want to share the spotlight with my old friend Max. She felt I deserved my own happy ever after and let me tell it the way I wanted to.” He grins. “But I gave her a hell of a time. Man, she curses a lot when she writes. And I”m so sick of listening to the same music over and over again. She gets a bit obsessive over her characters, but that’s good for me.”
Julietta shakes her head. “If it wasn’t for Jen, I’d be the only sister without a man and that would’ve been a shame. She writes in the same outfit almost every day: flannel purple pants that say WRITER down the leg, and an old tshirt. ”
Sawyer: “Definitely not sexy.”
Julietta punches his arm. “But effective. She gets the job done so leave her alone.”
Sawyer: “Yeah, you’re right. She’s working on Wolfe’s story right now and that’s a real bitch. Glad I’m done and Wolfe gets the hit. Searching for Beautiful comes out in May. If she’s still alive. Wolfe’s a tough one.”
Julietta smiles. “She’ll do it, she always does.”
We occasionally ask our guest what they do Under the Covers for fun. We’ve had the weirdest comments to the funniest. Would you guys care to share? (Jenn, you dont have to do this question. K)
Sawyer winks. “When you have a bag of toys and the hottest wife in the world, you don’t keep her under the covers, Angela. That’s all I’m going to say.”
Julietta groans. “TMI, darling. This is a professional interview. Let’s keep our private life private.”
Sawyer laughs. “Not too much privacy in Merger. Our sex life is pretty much on display, babe.”
Julietta sighs. “Thanks for having us here. It’s been a pleasure. And please buy the book!”
Thank for taking the time to hang out at UTC. Please send our regards to the family, Ms. Probst and Wolfe.
