“But the story actually wasn’t as strong for me as I was expecting.” ~Under the Covers

I was really excited to read FROM THE ASHES.  I’ve liked Daisy Harris work before and then mix that in with firefighters, yeah I couldn’t wait.  But the story actually wasn’t as strong for me as I was expecting.

First there’s Jesse.  He’s down on his luck, his apartment burned down.  He’s a bit too much of a sad case for me.  He was a bit too much like a victim and couldn’t really take hold of the situation and be better from it.  He was lacking strength.

Then there’s Tomas.  Sexy Tomas.  He’s the firefighter that comes to the rescue.  When Jesse has no place to go, he lets him stay with him.  But it was just so awkward that he lives right behind his family (big Latino household) and they obviously don’t approve of him being gay.

I guess this was just a case of personal taste and different expectations.  I like my characters with a bit more backbone and less weak.  I do still like Daisy Harris’ writing, but I think from now I may stick to the awkward college kids of Holsom College.

About Daisy Harris

Retired party girl and science fiction enthusiast, Daisy Harris spends most of her time writing sexy romance and plotting the fall of Western civilization. Her books can be found on Amazon, Nook, and wherever else fine erotic romance is sold.

Ms. Harris lives in Seattle, where she tortures her husband by making it rain. She enjoys watching bridges cause traffic, watching football games cause traffic, and blithely wearing wool socks with sandals.

She has never taken a single picture in which her bra strap is not showing.

I’m a 30 something sun lover living in the Big Apple (read New York).I’m a book and coffee addict and lover of all things elephants.

I get easily distracted by pictures of sexy guys and have tons of book boyfriends.I keep all my alpha males chained to my basement and guard them fiercely.*Back off bitches*I like to see Jason Momoa as a lot of those boyfriends, because ….. mmmmmmm JASON.MOMOA!

I’m a part time graphic designer (yes, everything you see on UTC has been done by me), run my husband's business from home and on a good day I’m a self appointed superwoman (she who can do it all).I love blogging with my girls and I couldn’t do it any other way!My first love is everything paranormal, but in the past few years I’ve re-learned to love contemporary romance.Every once in a while I like to mix things up with a historical romance, a steampunk or an LGBT book.Because I need variety to avoid book slumps.I don’t always need an HEA although I prefer one, and I love authors that can rip my heart out and make me ugly cry.
