Author Override is the place where authors take the reins and take you on a journey into their world. Some may allow you into their private writing dens. Others may take you along with them on research trips or interviews. Whatever the case may be, sit back, relax and enjoy the ride because here you’ll get an in-depth look into an author’s musings.
When I reviewed my “Deleted Scenes” file to look up something for this post, I was shocked to see I had about 60 pages that didn’t make it into the final cut of Rapture’s Edge! That’s about 15% of the entire novel, which is a lot. But my agent has told me numerous times that nothing is ever wasted, and her point is now proven as I share this deleted scene with you.
In this scene, the heroine Eliana is confronted with an unwanted offer of marriage from Silas, a family friend and trusted servant who is also a scheming, back-stabbing, evil genius, and just beginning to show his true colors. She isn’t having any of his BS, though!
“Survival of the fittest is the only thing that matters now.” Silas made a sharp motion with one hand to indicate the city beyond the garden walls, the world outside the cloistered one they’d made for themselves. His voice was clipped and cold; she sensed the anger building in him like storm clouds. “We live in a new world, principessa, a free world, though our freedom came at a terrible price. Only one thing remains the same: the strong devour the weak. With me, you can be strong. Without me…”
He shrugged—an elegant gesture that was both nonchalant and intentionally menacing—and Eliana’s temper snapped.
She would not be bullied.
She leapt from the chair and threw her napkin to the tabletop. “I agreed to get your guns and your money and steal like a common thief so our people wouldn’t starve and we could be protected from our enemies and everyone who wants to destroy us—but I will not agree to marry someone I don’t love just for the sake of safety, or to be a breeding mare for your pure-Blood army!”
Silas took in her clenched fists and fury with a heated glance, then his face lit up with a slow, lazy smile that bordered on bedroom. He stood as slowly from the table as she had not, allowing her ample time to see the bulge in the front of his black trousers. With a sick feeling in the pit of her stomach, Eliana realized her mistake; her display of anger had aroused him.
In two long strides he was beside her. He took her by the arm and pulled her hard against his body.
“There is a war coming, principessa,” he said into her ear, his voice very low. She tried to twist away, but Silas held her tight, pinned one arm behind her back and squeezed the other so hard she gasped in pain. “Change will swallow us, the future will swallow us, unless we act boldly and take what we want.” He backed them up over the grass until her foot hit something hard and unyielding; the trunk of a tree. He pressed her against it, pressed his body against hers and looked into her eyes. Intent and hotly devouring, his eyes froze something inside her and she shrank away from him.
“Love me or not, you are what I want Eliana, and you are what I will have, one way or another.”
“You’ve lost your mind!” she hissed. “Caesar will kill you for putting your hands on me—”
Silas laughed, an ugly bark of sound that sent goose bumps crawling up her spine.
“Caesar has already promised you to me, my sweet, so in the eyes of our people, we’re as good as wed.” He lowered his face to hers and before she could twist away, kissed her roughly on the lips.
Eliana bit him. Hard.
He spun away and spat a curse. When he turned back to her it was with a hand to his mouth, blood smeared in bright streaks across his lips. For a long, tense moment they stared at one another, the only sound their labored breathing, and a whistled song from a sparrow high up on the branches of a nearby elm.
Silas took a step forward, and Eliana’s temper flared even hotter. The vicious growl that rumbled through her chest silenced the sparrow in mid-warble. A dagger, kept on hand for just these kinds of occasions, appeared from beneath her waistband. It glinted coldly in the morning sun.
With steel in her voice Eliana said, “One more step, lover boy, and I’ll cut off your balls and make a pair of earrings out of them.” She smirked. “A very small pair.”

Deep within the primeval forests of southern England, a race of beautiful, savage shape-shifters lives hidden from the everyday world. Jenna spent her childhood in hiding, on the run from someone—or something—her parents refused to discuss. She trusts no one, not since her father’s mysterious disappearance, not since her mother’s sudden death, and definitely not since she began exhibiting strange, superhuman abilities. When handsome, enigmatic Leander appears, promising answers to the mysteries that shroud her past, she knows she shouldn’t trust him either. But their connection is undeniable, and as powerful as the enemy hell-bent on destroying every one of their kind…

Night Prowler, #3
Available June 18 at: Amazon
SECRETS…In the hidden world that exists beside our own, a mirror world of ancient magic and elegant deceptions, a world of people who are so much more than they first appear, a war is brewing. Most of these Gifted people—the Ikati, a savage, sensual race of lethal predators—are content to hide behind human smiles, disguising their splendor in order to survive. But others are discontent. And they will hide no longer.
BETRAYALS…Eliana lives for two things only: vengeance on the man who killed her father, and seeing his dream of living in the open with humans come to pass. But that dream is far too dangerous for The Hunt, a group of elite Ikati assassins with one objective: eliminate her before she can expose their secrets to the world.
SEDUCTION…Demetrius is haunted by the memory of the woman he once loved. He will risk everything to save her from the killers on her tail…and convince her, before the ancient walls between two worlds crumble, that only together can they defeat their real enemy, a brilliant, cunning traitor far more deadly than either of them can guess.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
J.T. Geissinger’s debut novel, Shadow’s Edge, was published in 2012 and was a #1 Amazon US and UK bestseller in fantasy romance and romance series. She has been nominated for the prestigious RITA® award from the Romance Writers of America for best paranormal romance for her second book in the Night Prowler series, Edge of Oblivion.
A life-long lover of reading and a self-professed “book addict,” she didn’t realize her dream of writing a novel until a milestone birthday forced her to take stock of her goals in life. Always believing the right time to commit to putting pen to paper would magically announce itself, it took waking up one cold January morning with a shiny new zero as the second number in her age to kick start her determination.
Starting on that very day, she wrote what would become Shadow’s Edge in a little over four months and submitted it to several literary agents. Nothing happened. Thinking that was the end of that but by no means willing to give up on her dreams of being published, she began work on a second manuscript.
Then, during a trip to Italy in honor of their 10th wedding anniversary and the honeymoon she and her husband never took, she received an email that would change her life. It was from an agent, Marlene Stringer of Stringer Literary, and it contained the three words every aspiring author longs to hear: “I loved it.”
Marlene sold the manuscript to Montlake Romance who published it six months later. Hitting the #1 Amazon bestseller lists within weeks of publication, Shadow’s Edge was book one of the Night Prowler novels. Book two, Edge of Oblivion, was published in October 2012 and will be followed by Rapture’s Edge in June 2013, and Edge of Darkness in fall 2013. There are six books total planned for the series.
