So sad to see our RT days winding down. We created some amazing memories and can’t wait to visit again. I can’t tell you how excited we are that next year this will be in NOLA! Woo get ready to party!
I have to say, the highlight at RT for me is getting to chat with readers. Talking about books always gets me jazzed! A real standout (and treat!) for me this year, however, was meeting Kitty of Kitty’s Creations at Etsy.com. I’ve been ordering these adorable stuffed dragons for readers and to put in giveaways all year, and she makes them! How cool is that? So fun to meet the creative mind behind one of my favourite things!

Another fabulous, exhausting, exhilarating and ridiculously awesome RT conference. My highlight would be dressing up as Bobbi Smith’s heroine, Cody Jameson, and honoring the pioneers of historical romance!

My favorite moment out of RT2013 came on Saturday during the Fan-tastic event that Dreamspinner threw for the attendees right at the end of Saturday. It was HUGE and packed with crazed readers. LOL I got roped into MCing and was joking around for about an hour giving away prizes and generally causing trouble with thousands of fans when a tiny woman tapped me on my arm. Jude Deveraux (JUDE DEVERAUX!) stood there holding two ARCs of her newest book to offer them as prizes.
It was such an astonishing moment because Jude is genre royalty and SUCH a legend in the industry. To have her support Dreamspinner’s event and to feel so connected to the 30 year tradition of the RT convention in that moment. For LGBT romance to be so embraced this year felt tremendous, but somehow her smile and generosity in this MASSIVE event made it all feel real and just broke me open in front of all those people. I had seen her speak earlier in the week, and been blown away by her wit and prescience, and here she was just smiling and patting my arm as she handed over her new book to give away. I started to cry.
Hands down my fave moment of RT2013, and one I’ll never forget.
Love in an elevator…
For one brief moment, I was mistaken for being E.L. James (yes, THAT E.L. James. The author of 50 Shades of Grey). It had something to do with the fact I had her badge on my lap at the time (of course, Mari Carr and I did wicked things with that badge until we were told the next morning E.L. James wanted it back. *sigh* She’s no fun at all.)
(Okay, truthfully, my highlight was spending 7 days with the most amazing group of people I’ve ever had the fortune to meet: romance authors and romance readers from all corners of the globe. Best fun ever! Oh, and dancing in the snow was pretty bloody brilliant as well. This little Aussie doesn’t get the chance to do that often *grin*)

A highlight from RT2013 was getting to see familiar faces for the first time. Yes, that does make sense! I’ve gotten to know so many people online over the past years, and with twitter pics and IM photos, I have an idea what they look like. But seeing them in person? Getting to have a voice to connect with? Priceless.
Our last TERRIBLE TWO’S giveaways!
These will run until the end of the month.
