October was a much slower month for me in terms of my binge watching TV. I’ve been extremely tired, what can I say? However, since I’m caught up with Outlander I’ve been devouring each new episode anxiously as soon as they release. I haven’t read the books so I’m not sure how true to the books they are staying, but as far as the show… I’m so in love with these characters it’s not even funny. It’s a full blown obsession. I will admit that Season 3 has started out much slower than I was expecting and I am not sure I’m as happy as I would like to be with how the emotions of the Claire and Jamie re-connecting are unfolding. Is that just me? I was expecting something different and week by week I’m feeling just a tad underwhelmed from where I had my expectations.
I tried to watch Vikings, and I only made it one episode into it. I may revisit it at a later time but I don’t think it hooked me and I found the acting to be a bit sub-par. I was expecting Game of Thrones quality and that’s certainly not what we get here. Sadly, not even the Travis Fimmel eye candy saved this one for me.
I did jump on a new bandwagon, although it was a quick one. I watched all four seasons of Sherlock. They were such short seasons! And there isn’t any more!! Whyyyyyyy? Benedict Cumberbatch is so perfect as Sherlock and the mystery lover in me was eating it all up.
And that also brings me to the new season of This is Us. I don’t think it’s started out as strong as the previous season, but even with that, every episode gives me ALL.THE.FEELS. Right now I have the softest spot for Randall and his family. I love how everyone in this show has their own battles and struggles that they have to overcome and at the same time they are all so beautifully interconnected. This is one of those few stories that just feels real and it moves you because of it.
Towards the very end of October I started my annual Hallmark Christmas movie watching 🙂 This year it kicked off with Marry Me at Christmas which aired on 10/28 and this is based on the novel MARRY ME AT CHRISTMAS by Susan Mallery. I actually read that book (my review of the book here) and I think it was a cute representation of the story. It was a great adaptation and it captured the spirit of the season nicely for me. I may even go as far as saying I liked the movie more than the book in this case? You’ll be hearing me talk about Christmas movies more in my November recap LOL so get ready!
After finishing Game of Thrones last month, my husband and I have been in search for another tv series to immerse ourselves into. Unfortunately, the GOT-hangover was worse than we thought. Nothing seems to compare. We attempted to watch Frontier with Jason Momoa but we just couldn’t get into it. Though Momoa was very pretty to look at, the story line dragged. So we put that show in the back burner for now.
We found The Last Kingdom, which we liked a lot. Unfortunately, it didn’t last very long. The show only had two seasons and we breezed right through them. The main character Uhtred was born a Saxon raised by a Dane. Love this guy. He has that Snow (of GOT) vibe about him. A bit more good looking too. There lots of action, blood and gore, and some smexy scenes. Doesn’t compare to GOT but we enjoyed it enough. I believe the next season will come out in May.
After The Last Kingdom, we were again in search for another show and found The Vikings. We just started season three and we’re enjoying this show as well. Again, not as good as Game of Thrones or The Last Kingdom, but I suppose it’s okay. Just like the first two shows, the series has good action, play for power, drama and sexy scenes. I still will mentioned that, it does not compare to GOT. I love that they incorporated women that are pretty kick ass. The fight for power has strong religious aspects which I thought was pretty interesting. Did I mention sexy Vikings?
I’m not sure what we will watch after The Vikings, but we may venture back to The Frontier. I’m hoping we’ll see it in a different and better light.
I have AMAZING NEWS for those of you who love podcasts as much as me and for those of you who love tales of folklore, history and how they entwine. One of my favourite podcasts LORE has been made into a TV programme! It’s showing on Amazon Prime TV and it is amazing. The first series only has 6 episodes but they are absolutely fascinating. It gives you a snapshot in time shows you some of the believes people had and how it affected their lives. Things like lobotomy, werewolves, vampires, faeries, creepy dolls…it’s both interesting and educational.
If you don’t have access to Amazon Prime TV though, no worries, listen to the podcast. Aaron Mahnke narrates both the TV show and the podcast and he is fantastic. The writing is spellbinding and Mahnke narrates it perfectly, his voice really draws you in as weaves tales about the past and lore from all across the world.
Sadly, I haven’t had much time to binge watch this month so I’m still working my way through Oh My Ghost, which is currently on Netflix right now. I did however manage to finish Ouran Host Club. As a slightly longer anime series, I worried that some of the storyline would drag on but actually I think the depth of the series got better with each of the episodes. They go into the backstory of each character much more and I definitely fell in love with them. I would’ve loved more of a romance at the end, but considering that this is for Young Adults, I could understand why the ending turned out the way it did. Overall, I would highly recommend this series if you’re looking for something light and funny.
So now that I’ve finished that series, I started Yuri on Ice. It’s also an anime, but it’s with a gay romance in it. I don’t actually have much interest in figure skating, but I have found that I do enjoy these sports themed romances so I’m looking forward to watching the rest of the series. So far, the first couple of episodes have been more on the cute side. I wonder if there will be some angst later on in the series. I guess I’ll find out soon enough!
