“NOW I RISE is definitely my favorite Fantasy read of this year.”

Whether or not you are a fan of Young Adult, if you are a fan of Fantasy Romance then you definitely need to read this series by Kiersten White. This book completely surprised me. I expected it to be good because I loved the first book so much, but this book totally exceeded my expectations.

First of all, I have to mention the writing. It’s possible that if you pick up this book, you wouldn’t even be able to tell that this is a Young Adult book because of the vocabulary used in it. It’s concise, intelligent and descriptive. It’s books like these that I want to applaud because these are the kind of books that make kids smarter. With the rich descriptions and setting, you kind of get a history lesson as well and I also love that the author doesn’t shy away from violence or injustice in this book. All of these things happen in the real world and it isn’t watered down for kids to consume in this book. It’s hardhitting and all the more exciting because of it.

Another thing that I like about this series are the character. We have quite a few characters in here that I’m obsessed with. That rarely happens in a book or series, but I do find myself having that strong connection with the characters. It makes reading very easy.

I will say though that this book does feel a tiny bit slower than the first book. Especially in the beginning, the author takes her time building things up so the first half feels slower than the latter. However, I do like the little twists and turns that this little book has. I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series. NOW I RISE is definitely my favorite Fantasy read of this year.

About Kiersten White

Hi! I'm the New York Times best-selling author of Paranormalcy and Supernaturally. I also give the most awkward hugs in the world. You should probably opt for one of my books over one of my hugs, but then again, maybe you like awkward hugs.

As for me, I like writing flirting scenes, and fighting scenes, and sometimes I write scenes that fall somewhere in between the two, but only if I can't avoid it.

Blogger/Reviewer at Under the Covers Book Blog
I’m a 26 year old obsessive makeup junkie and a compulsive reader. I like to call Under the Covers Book Blog my stomping ground, but when I’m not talking about books with my girls, I’m also a reviewer for Over there, I’m also a columnist. I have a column called Into the Night that discusses the latest and greatest news in the Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy genre. I also work as a virtual assistant for authors.

When it comes to books I’m pretty adventurous. I read everything from Paranormal Romance to Urban Fantasy, to New Adult, BDSM, LGBT fiction and even YA. If it’s got the littlest trace of romance in it, I’ll probably read it. That being said, my all-time favorite authors are J.R. Ward and Karen Marie Moning.

When I’m not submerged in a good book, you can find me musing about makeup and fashion or dreaming about boys and beaches. My love for all things David Gandy is well documented on the Internet and we’ll be getting married shortly. I’ll be sure to send you an invite to the wedding! ;P Until then, check out my reviews and let’s talk books!

The writing is good and the characters are well developed. However, I don’t think this series is for me. I like some happiness when I read. However, every time I thought there was going to be some, it went in a different direction.
