“HARD JUSTICE just wasn’t one of my favorites.”
~ Under the Covers

HARD JUSTICE is the second book in the Body Armor series by Lori Foster. Now this series is meant to be a Romantic Suspense series however I will say that although it does have some suspenseful moments in it, it is certainly not that will make you hold your breath. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that at all. Foster’s style is just a little more subdued and less in your face. I think that’s actually what’s intriguing about this series because there’s no big explosions or gun fights. The action is far more controlled and therefore, more difficult to write.

Foster does a good job of keeping the romance as the focus of the book however I was a little disappointed in the choice of heroine. We’ve met the hero, Justice, in the first book of the series and I really loved him there. He was a bit like the comic relief for that book and I thought he had a lot of spirit.

Justice seems a lot more toned down in this book which disappointed me and I think that’s mainly due to the heroine. Fallon is a very sheltered woman and that’s the main reason why I couldn’t get on with her character. She does show intelligence and a daring personality but I just didn’t like her with Justice. I felt like he had to hold so much of himself back because of her.

I also thought the premise of this book to be a little wishy-washy. The series is about bodyguards and when Justice first picks Fallon up, he takes her to a bar. Now I know some bars can be seedy and dangerous but I thought the first book just had a stronger storyline to it. As a result, HARD JUSTICE just wasn’t one of my favorites.

EXCERPT

It took Fallon a few seconds more to get her feet moving, then she darted to the closet with new excitement. Shoot, even having a bodyguard would be an adventure when the bodyguard looked like him.

She stepped into her flat-heeled shoes, found a cardigan to pull on over her top and chose a scarf to drape around her neck. She didn’t particularly like the outfit, but no way would she make him wait while she went through her wardrobe.

After one last fluff of her brown hair and a quick swipe of gloss over her lips, Fallon squared her shoulders, filled her lungs with a fortifying breath for courage and ventured forth.

The second she stepped out, she heard his deep voice and paused to listen.

“No need to worry. I’ll cover her.”

Her father choked, turned it into a cough, and said with authority, “She is not to be alone. Not for a single second.”

“Promise I’ll stick real close.”

Alarmed, her father corrected, “But not too close.”

“Just close enough, then.”

“No one is to get too cozy with her either.”

“No cozy shenanigans,” he said. “Got it.”

“She’s naive and doesn’t understand that thugs—” here her father paused for effect, his narrowed gaze on the man “—might try to use her to get to her wealth.”

“Yeah? That’s happened before?”

“Well…no.” Her father harrumphed in that familiar way that showed his annoyance. “But it’s a very real concern.”

Blogger/Reviewer at Under the Covers Book Blog
I’m an obsessive makeup junkie and a compulsive reader. I like to call Under the Covers Book Blog my stomping ground, but when I’m not talking about books with my girls, I write New Adult Dystopian and Contemporary Romance under the pen name Ana Jolene (http://www.anajolene.com). I also work as a virtual assistant for authors. You also can find me as a reviewer and columnist for FreshFiction.com.

When it comes to books I’m pretty adventurous. I read everything from Paranormal Romance to Urban Fantasy, New Adult, BDSM, LGBT fiction, Cozy Mysteries and even YA. If it’s got the littlest trace of romance in it, then I’ll probably read it. That being said, my all-time favorite authors are J.R. Ward and Karen Marie Moning.

When I’m not submerged in a good book, you can find me musing about makeup and planners or dreaming about Kpop boys and beaches. Until then, check out my reviews and let’s talk books!

I’d try for a police station, if I couldn’t get there I try to go someplace public and get lost in the crowd.

I do like the body guard element, but I can see where you’d be put off if it seemed like the danger side wasn’t being taken into consideration properly.

Yes, it just wasn’t suspenseful enough for me.

Somewhere heavily populated so I could get lost in the crowd and hopefully find help.

I’d go to a busy place, or a spot where someone knew me and would help.

I’d go to a police or fire station or perhaps a busy store.

Somewhere I am familiar with, I don’t want to get lost! I don’t live that far away from the police station but that is closed at night, so running there will probably have me end up getting caught.

I would look for somewhere crowded or safe, like a Church to hide out.

I’d go some place really crowded, where I can sneak into someone’s group until I could get away again
