“Karina Halle weaves an enthralling web that just keeps getting thicker and thicker, and sucks you in with every page you turn!” ~Under the Covers

“Vengeance is a beast, you know.  It can be tamed.  I just stopped feeding it.”

To say I was like a crack addict waiting outside of the dealer door for another fix is putting it mildly.  After the agonizing ending of SINS & NEEDLES, I had to jump on this short story as soon as it became available.  And although I knew what it was about and thought I wouldn’t necessarily care much for it, boy was I wrong?

After hating Javier because he’s not Mr. Nice Guy I was floored by how much the author managed to make me like him.  Even after knowing what he does, who he is and what he will become.  That takes talent!  My brain is telling me that nothing good awaits, and that’s because I actually know this, and I couldn’t help but fall for the bad guy.

We got a little bit of this story while reading SINS & NEEDLES but to experience it along with Ellie/Eden was completely different.  Ellie rolls into town looking for vengeance.  Trying to bring down the man responsible for her scars, she finds that the best way to get to him is through Javier, and she sets to seduce him.

But she ends up entangled in Javier’s web of love and obsession and soon she doesn’t know what’s right or wrong, if she should go forward or give in to her heart.

I think I appreciate this story more having read it after SINS & NEEDLES.  I think it would’ve been a good story otherwise had I started here, but knowing what’s to come(and anticipating book two) just makes me appreciate it more I think.  Javier made my insides melt into a puddle of goo.  He’s sexy and slick, refined and dominating, powerful and lethal.  Just the guy to make me shiver.

Ellie/Eden was also a bit different, a little more naive and less kick ass than future Ellie.  It was interesting to see the differences and how much she’s grown as well as closed herself off.  Javier had a way of getting through her defenses that I don’t think even the AMAZING Camden was able to do in such a short period of time.

However, as much as I loved Javier…I missed Camden.  Yes, I’m still Team Camden and I think he fills a void in Ellie’s life that I don’t think Javier ever could.

This is a great addition to the series and will just leave you wanting more.  If you’re like me and want something out of the ordinary mold, you have to read this series.  Karina Halle weaves an enthralling web that just keeps getting thicker and thicker, and sucks you in with every page you turn!  Now I just can’t wait to get my greedy paws on SHOOTING SCARS.

Favorite Quotes:

“I could never forget your voice.  You sound like an angel who’s gotten her wings dirty.”

“You know,” he began, voice low and full, “if you were to ever leave me, I’d come looking for you, on every street.”
“You promise?”
“Always.”  And I knew he kept his promises.

“Revenge has been my lover for too long,” he said, breath hot on my neck.  He began sliding down my body, toward the floor, arms around me.  “Power, my savior.  I need to learn how to put you first, above those things.  I need you to help me, to teach me.  I don’t want to love anything more than you, Eden, so please, I’m begging you, show me how.  You need to be my everything.”

“I want to stain you, Eden.  I want myself embedded in your skin, in your heart, in your soul.”

“I will always remain.  I am the ink in your blood.”

About Karina Halle

The daughter of a Norwegian Viking and a Finnish Moomin, Karina Halle grew up in Vancouver, Canada with trolls and eternal darkness on the brain. This soon turned into a love of all things that go bump in the night and a rather sadistic appreciation for freaking people out. Like many of the flawed characters she writes, Karina never knew where to find herself and has dabbled in acting, make-up artistry, film production, screenwriting, photography, travel writing and music journalism. She eventually found herself in the pages of the very novels she wrote (if only she had looked there to begin with).

Karina holds a screenwriting degree from Vancouver Film School and a Bachelor of Journalism from TRU. Her travel writing, music reviews/interviews and photography has appeared in publications such as Consequence of Sound, Mxdwn and GoNomad Travel Guides. She currently splits her time between her apartment in downtown Vancouver and her sailboat, where a book and a bottle of wine are always at hand.

I’m a 32 sun lover living in the Big Apple (read New York).I’m a book and coffee addict and lover of all things elephants.

I get easily distracted by pictures of sexy guys and have tons of book boyfriends.I keep all my alpha males chained to my basement and guard them fiercely.*Back off bitches*I like to see Jason Momoa as a lot of those boyfriends, because ….. mmmmmmm JASON.MOMOA!

I’m a part time graphic designer (yes, everything you see on UTC has been done by me) and on a good day I’m a self appointed superwoman (she who can do it all).I love blogging with my girls and I couldn’t do it any other way!My first love is everything paranormal, but in the past few years I’ve learned to love contemporary romance.Every once in a while I like to mix things up with a historical romance, a steampunk or an LGBT book.Because I need variety to avoid book slumps.I don’t always need an HEA although I prefer one, and I love authors that can rip my heart out and make me ugly cry.
